Audio quality on x50v
I have an x50v, and in my opinion, the audio quality of mp3 with wmp is fantastic ! I can hardly tell teh difference between it and my ipod! They sound the same. (Maybe thats just me, I'm no audiophile) Too bad there isn't a 20GB drive for it, and an 8 hr battery life!

Yes, it's been discovered that the ipod and the axim x50v have the same audio chip.

on that end of things i was really impressed with the volume on the x50 series. having it under the d-pad is brilliant, esp afte the x30 had such low volume/quality and was on the back. i can use it just like a cellphone for voip as well this way..

I would argue that! Actually I think my axia sounds much better with x50mix 0.10 then iPodMini (I had one - returned)

Ditto. I found that since I got my X50v, I didn't use my ipod anymore.... so I gave it to my nephew. Having 40GB worth of songs was a bit overkill. I can store between 300-350 songs on my 1GB SD card, which is plenty. I change album folders every few days.
The Ax does what the ipod does, but SO MUCH MORE!!

yeah, the axim does more, but I have around 3000 songs and I like listenign to something new every day. Also, mp3's eat up the battery of teh x50v; imo, its just not hte same. Also, the controls on teh ipod are more "music optimized" with the remote and all than the x50v. I still do keep some songs on teh x50v, but I bring my ipod everywhere!

Well I say the Axim has great sound quality. I think using x50 mix helps a lot and also I use GSPlayer which has an equlizer. Compared to my desktop which has an Audigy2 Platnium the quality is not quite as good but still amazing.

iPod non-stop playtime = 10-15 hours
X50v non-stop playtime = 1-2 hours (screen display off)
The right tool for the right job.
Speaking of which, why isn't the x50v more efficient when it's used as an MP3 player.

Are you sure about this? I got 1:47 minutes while watching a movie with betaplayer on a 4GB Microdrive with Bluetooth ON connected to my HP Bluetooth Stereo Headphones. Also, when I commute to work, I put the music on, turn the screen off while bluetooth is on connected to my bt headphones and after 45 minutes, the battery barely gets 80% down. Seems I can go for a few hours like this, haven't had a chance to let it play that long though...
Oh, and about the controls not being made for music, I think being able to pause, play, and select previous and next track without taking the Axim from my bag or pocket is more then they iPod can do.

Hey, i've heard that many people had problems with the band of the HP BT headphone cracking. Did you have any issues with that? I'm thinking of getting one but I can't find any places in Canada that sells it.

Well sure, the IPOD is actually designed to only play music... of course it's going to be more efficient that way.
But I carry my X50v ONLY and do everything with it. With standard usage I can get through the whole day.
Also, I'm not a POWER user, and I don't listen to a huge amount of music on the move... but it comes in handy when I'm on the train or bus, and I have those 20-30 minutes to spare!!!
As far as sound quality, the would be exactly the same!!!

Are you kidding?
tested it : screen on, bt on , IE serfing the web, music (betaplayer) at background - 3 hours 57 min 48 sec :approve:
plus when you only play music - set your CPU to minimum and turn off the screen

i've gotta call bullsh.. on this as well. i get in the range of 4-5 hours with the screen on with the standard battery. the extended batt runs much longer, i could play tunes all day straight (8-10 hrs) and still have 20-30% left.
