Finally got an answer, sort of, from Dell. They said to try A03 on the new X50. It is going from A01 to A03. I will let you know how it goes.

Well, that was a disaster. Once again, all the notes in my Calendar and Contacts items disappear as soon as I use the Switcher Bar to close out one of the programs. This is the second device I have in as many weeks and both have done this as soon as I upgraded to A03. Has anybody else fogured something out? I love this new Axim, but I cannot function without my notes. I am on trhe verge of giving up on the thing and returning it. Any help out there?

A couple of more bits of info on what I am running to see if anybody sees a red flag.

I am synching on a work computer running Win XP pro and Outlook 2000 (is that too old a version?). Also, I did update to ActiveSync 3.8 right before I went to A03. I would love any thoughts you guys have out there. This Noob is sad about his new toy.

I have now returned to A02 and everything works. I am staying there until Dell gives me a good reason to move.

I'm running.... Xp Pro, Outlook 2002 and same issues - almost identical. Had to revert back to A02.

Sounds like you had your Dell replaced? Was thinking of pushing Dell to do same.

Thoughts please.

Thanks,

Dave

I did have it replaced. It was only one week old. But that did not do me any good. The new one did the same thing. There may be some configuration that only a few of us have that is causing this, because this does not seem to be a common problem. Dell's tech said he would get back to me in the next few days. He seemed truly baffled. For the moment, I am sticking with A02. The only problem I have had with it is getting a program is busy message when I close Calendar or Contacts after openingit with the fronty buttons. Rarely happens if I use the Startt menu.

Same Issue

I have Win2K Pro, ActiveSync 3.8. For the most part, I don't use the notes, though, so it is a non-issue for me.

If I Click 'edit' and type something, it wipes out the notes.

I don't use the switcher bar, so I don't think that is an issue.

I use MagicButton for task switching (only weird thing with that is it doesn't close the wireless utility properly, so you have to hit 'enter' to get the wireless app to go back to previous screen). Other than that, I am running NO Today apps.

I am using OZ and SE VGA and run almost entirely in True VGA.

I'm also one of the lucky ones who has had the "Memory Error - press (contacts button) to reset" (Dell thought is was a battery problem and sent me a new battery).

Maybe I should push Dell for a new one - but I'm afraid of getting something worse!

Same Issue

Hi, got mine new X50v and made an upgrade to A03.

I´m using WinXP SP2, ActiveSync 3.8 and Outlook 2003 SP1.

And I have the same issue, notes dissepeares on exit all programs with Switcher Bar. But a soft reset and the are back. So for now I´m not using Switcher Bar, becouse it´s anouing too have to do a soft reset as soon as I need to write something in appointment notes.

Any answer from dell, if the going to fix the problem??

Just found this thread. I just got my Dell X50v replacement unit back from Dell. I was having the same difficulty, and they just gave me a new (refurb) one. The new (2nd) one has A02 on it, and I'm NOT updating to the A03, that is until I hear something out of Dell.

Sad part about all this, I got my X50v last October, and it worked GREAT, but I just had to be one of the 1st to put the new A03 update on it, rather than waiting to see if it works. I won't make that mistake again.

Howdy all,

Thanks for keeping this thread alive.

I called Dell on 2 separate occasions about this issue;
1. April 25, 2005 - to register the switcher bar causing APPOINTMENT notes to be hidden
2. May 9, 2005 - to register the switcher bar causing CONTACT notes to be hidden.

They offered a replacement, which is a refurb. ; (
The objective of my call was to log the issue so gets fixed in A04 or ???. Truthfully, I don't want a refurb since babied my X50V since new. Tech support was great IMHO and they suggest I keep the replacement for 10 days and return whichever X50V I choose, current or refurb. If issue persists on both, will keep current and use A02.

Dell also suggested 2 things:
1. Patch refurb to A03 and see if same issue
2. Log issue at the following URLs as emails go directly to head office as per my service rep:
Canada - http://tinyurl.com/9ls2k (http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/topi...=ca&l=en&s=gen)
USA - http://tinyurl.com/7h3ky (https://support.dell.com/support/sup...est=true&s=dhs)

My suggestion is anyone who is effected by this issue should contact Dell at above URLs so it’s addressed ASAP. My 2 cents….

Thanks in advance,

Dave

I have had the same issues with notes in the Calendar and Contacts disapearing after using the switcher bar and returning after soft reset - when not cradled. I have A03, sync 3.8, XP SP2, Outlook 2003. Everything else seems to work great.
I did the Dell call. After several soft and hard resets they did offer a replacement. I declined a refirb model and asked that this issue be addressed in a future update.

Hi,

Got replacement X50v today which I promptly upgraded to A03 and sure enough, after using the switcher bar, it hid the appointment and contact notes. It's going back tomorrow as keeping original X50V and staying with A02. Come on A04.

Thanks, Dave

ASIDE: Dell tech support has been great as instructions and shipping labels etc. included.

Well, thanks to you guys I know I am not crazy. I am sticking with A02. Dell promised to get back to me after the replacement did the same thing, but so far nothing. I am now using Magic Button and avoiding the stupid Switcher Bar all together.

A03 & Magic Bar

Hi,

Anyone with the lost/hidden contact/appointment notes using A03 & Magic Bar? Comments please. (ie. if one uses Magic Bar to terminate applications, are contact/appointment note subject to same issues brought about by switcher bar?)

Thanks,

Dave
