Messaging
new account> create: AOL (or any name you want)
e-mail address: screen name@aol.com

user info >
your name : name you want displayed
user name : screen name WITHOUT @aol.com
password : screen name password
CHECK save password

acct type : IMAP4
name : same as created account name - AOL (used for this example )

server information >
incoming mail : imap.aol.com
outgoing mail : smtp.aol.com
domain : LEAVE BLANK

next step VERY IMPORTANT
OPTIONS > Connection > be sure to use the DEVICE NAME ( should start with xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-ect ) NOT the other choices

OPTIONS >
CHECK - only display messages from the last XX days ( you can determine XX days )
UNCHECK - req.SSL connection
CHECK - outgoing mail req's auth
CHECK - use seperate settings
OUTGOING SETTINGS >
user name : screen name WITHOUT @AOL.COM
password : screen name pasword
domain : leave BLANK
CHECK save password

OK - returns to options 2/3 screen
NEXT

get message headers only or your preference
CHECK include XX K headers ( you determine XX size - 5 is a good start )
next box at your preference

finish

make sure that AOL ( or your named setting )is selected in the ACCOUNTS pulldown of MESSAGING

I use this setting for both BT via my V600 along with Wifi locations throughout the World- can receive AND send AOL mail :)

I hope this helps anyone trying to resolve the AOL mail connection issues.
