Wifi Icon

Hi,

On the today screen on the bottom taskbar (where the "new" button is) is the wifi icon suppose to show the signal with green bars?

Even when I have a very good connection, I still dont get those green bars

Bluetooth icon works well tho. Turns blue when its turned on.

That wifi/bluetooth icon pack (somewhere on the forums lol) didnt seem to indicate my signal either. The bluetooth also works fine on the icon pack too...

Any ideas?

If you don't get the green bars, what does it show? Does it show the 'broken connection" icon, or is it yellow/red bars? Or is the icon even there?

oops should of mentioned that. Its like got the bars, but it doesnt show colour which indicates the signal. It isnt the broken icon, and isnt red or yellow. Its just the 5 step-like bars, just coloured white?

I get that too now. Before I thought it used to show green bars but recently it has just been showing white bars. I am going to install the A03 update over the weekend I think and see if that helps (I think I need a hard reset to clear up my earlier playing around with the axim) :)

Mine are white as well even after the A03 update.
When close to the router they turn green again.

The white bars means that wifi is turned on, and it's scanned the network. If it's not green/red/yellow, it means that a connection hasn't been made. Once the connection is made, the colors will show the signal strength.

How do you know you have a good connection? Can you surf the internet?

good connection, because if I tap the icon at the top (next to the clock) I can can see "wifi connection" and green bars showing me the signal from the little bubble that pops up.

I can tell its a good connection, from looking at the connection from my computer and also from the top taskbar icon. I can also access/play music from the network perfectly. Internet sort of works, just some sites (aximsite for example) take ages to load.

heres a screenshot, to show it better. (using Magic SS)

Have now just installed the new Wifi/Bluetooth icon pack. It just showed the same thing when it was on A02, and with the normal icons on A02 (no green bars). A03 hasnt made a slight difference either?

p.s you can tell what country I'm from!!!! LOL.

Yup it's England. Finally solved the problem... seems an Ad-Hoc connection doesnt seem to show the connection on the today screen, where as if you use an (is this right?) infrastructure connection it will show the connection bars on the today screen. So in other words, computer to computer it doesnt show the connection on the today screen. Connecting to an access point it does show the connection on the today screen! :approve:

Has anyone else noticed this?

Is this a new discovery!?

I'm not sure, but this very common thing on PDAs, PCs (I hope)...
The signal measurement, when you are in Ad-Hoc mode, is not available...
I don't know, if there is any reason or that, but I think (maybe I'm guessing) that this is in WiFi specs...

Its wierd why its like that . I normally connect to my study computer (built in wifi) on an Ad-Hoc connection. Should be doing complete wireless soon as I have another computer and laptop :approve:

And today I managed to experiment with a friends access point, and suddenly noticed the green bars which I had been wanting to see!

Will have a look at wifi specs when I get some free time

Yes, it's weird... And when you think on both sides (Access Point <-> WiFi card) is "same" hardware, it's more weird... I saw few APs from Orinoco using PCMCIA cards within...
