Storing videos and files on a server (to be accessed by wifi)

Im new to pocket pc's, but if I get a x50v, what I would like to do is convert some home videos & such to ppc format, then store them on a computer running windows server 2003. The idea is since the x50v has wifi, I could create a link on it to go to \\fileserver then inside it would have folders such as "video 1" "video 2" and inside have the video file that I can just click on and it would bring up the windows media player. Just like on a windows-based desktop.

I haven't used windows mobile before, so would it work like that?

There are ways to make that work but it's not ideal. As long as you re-encode the video to a suitable size and bitrate you'll have some success.

You need to use a third party utility like netrunner to open the file. Then you're on your way.

Another approach is to stream them via Windows Media Encoder. Not as flexible but it'll most likely perform better.
