A03, it just works.

the A03 update for the X50v, which i was getting sick of BTW due to the annoying wifi errors and BT errors, has exceeded my expectations.
It has not only fixed those problems, but Improved my battery life:
standard battery has gone from 5 hours 30 min with ms reader open and backlight on first notch, to an amazing 6 hours and change, and at the same time feeling much zippier.

the wifi access is much more reliable, and the range has increased atleast 15 feet, since i can now link up with the AP in the far bedroom instead of the livingroom.

I dont use the bluetooth except for the keyboard, but it is now rock solid instead of buggy as all get out.

overall, A03 has turned this device from an early adopter, beta piece of hardware into the full blown whammy-jammy device that i knew it could be.

The next time i expect to even feel remotely inclined to need a rom upgrade is when WM2005 is ready to roll (yes when, not if)

Kudos to the dell, My X50v is the king.

is this for the x50v only? i have a mid...

i have A01 right now, cuz A02 didn't do much to improve the mid and low models...just some stupid cosmetic stuff as far as i could tell (colored battery meter, doble-hit the wifi button to turn it on, ect). the A03 sounds good though...increasing the battery life! that's what i'm talking about!

also, do i need A02 to upgrade, or does the A03 do all of the A02 stuff and then some?

thank you!

There is a separate version of A03 for the Mid.. (its labled as the QVGA update on the Dell Website).

You don't have to apply any of the previous updates you can go straight to A03

yes it would make a great website. A place devoted to things that simply work as they should...like the Ipod...or a cinnamon danish from Pret a Manger 'cause they're always tasty. :coffeedri

For me, internet is much slower (used to be fast) and screen sensitivity seems less then before, especially text entry seems as with A01 that got corrected with A02.

I must agree that A03 is a great improvement.

Touch screen much better
I noticed Bluetooth working better as well for my keyboard
Wifi improved
I was getting "not reading CF card error" at times-No more
Glad to hear about battery life

One question: I backed up then reinstalled. I read somewhere on this site that if you do that you might not get all of the changes that came with A03. Specifically, my enabling wireless button still "enables or disables" easily when touched. Shouldn't it be somewhat different now? Not as sensitive?

You should definitely think about doing a complete hard-reset and reinstalling your apps. When you RESTORE, it replaces all the new updated files (such as the having to double press the wifi button to enable it) with your old files. NOT recommended to do a RESTORE!

I'm not sure why so many want to take the Restore short cut. The risk / reward (screw up your PPC versus save an hour) just isn't there, IMHO.

I found the easiest and surest thing to do is to:

- Close all apps on PPC.
- Use Resco file explorer or Windows Explorer on PC to delete all files / folders out of BIS (this is where I install every program that I can)
- Hard Reset the PPC
- Do the ROM upgrade on a "clean" PPC
- Use ActiveSync to reinstall programs. I do this in two steps. 1) I go through the list and first install those apps that go in RAM. (For me, BatteryPack Pro, Sprite Backup, and MemMaid). Just call up activesync, go to tools/add/remove programs. Select the appropriate programs, and say apply. 2) Once these installations have been completed on the PPC, I do the second round - programs that go in BIS. Only difference here is that during the install proces on the PC, I say "no" when it asks to install the programs to main memory and redirect to BIS instead.

Finally, I install apps that don't go through Activesync (like Textmaker) and then go through each app that needs configuration or registration and take care of that.

I maintain a spreadsheet with info on each application I use, with a column showing where it's installed and columns with instructions on how to configure and what the user names and / or passwords are.

The whole process takes just over an hour, and is far less risk-prone than a restore.

JMO. :)

Thanks cnycompguy! I've been undecided about upgrading to AO3, and you just made a sale! Appreciate your input :approve:

I upgraded to AO2 the day it became available, and really am quite pleased with what I have now, it works for me. When AO3 came out, I took a kind of wait and see attitude, but you have swayed me. I suppose I'm ready to devote an afternoon to re-installing software now, for the benifits you described. :)

THANKS :approve:
