trouble with Word files

I have transferred some large MS Word files (doc) to my Axim x50. They are each about 1 MB. I can open and read the files, but when I exit a message window appears to ask me if I want to save these files in pocket Word or Word format (even when there is no modification to the files).

If I select pocket Word, there is a long wait (5 --10 minutes) while saving, and the resulting file on storage card is twice the size as originally. Repeating opening and closing the file doubles size again.

If I select Word, the same long wait occurs but then the file is smaller than original and can't be opened -- must be deleted.

What must be done to permit having the files available for viewing on the pocket PC?

Pocket Word does not handle a lot of features that regular WORD documents contain. Do your documents contain graphics? Tables?

I use TextMaker for my wordprocessing. It is pretty close to being fully compatible with WORD. It is a bit pricey, but it is worth it. There are sometimes good sales on it.
