How can you resync with an old profile?

Had my X50V all set up perfectly, running A03 Rom and then I installed OZ-VGA. Well OZ-VGA screwed up things so bad that I had to do a hard reset. Now when I try to sync with my computer, I need to create a new partnership and profile. Is there anyway I can sync with the existing one one my computer? I remember that Palm Desktop used to allow you to do this. Stupid MS.

with your PDA out of the cradle go to activesync click on file then delete partnership. delete the one you want, when it asks if you want to delete your stored files (or something like that) you can say no. Make sure after your hard reset you rename your PDA the same as it was and you should be good to go.

You would still need to recreate the partnership this way I think. However you will not lose any of the programs from you add/remove list.

I am not sure of a way of recreating the old partnership. I don't know how it can tell. I suspect it writes a file to the PDA. Maybe before you hard reset again you copy this file to you computer as a backup??? Doesn't help you now though...

If you want to re-establish the partnership with ActiveSync using the same machine name as before, do the following. Let's assume the name of your machine is, simply, Axim. Substitute your machine name where that appears.

1) Rename the synchronized My Documents folder for the Axim to something else. I.E.

Change the name of: \My Documents\Axim My Documents to \My Documents\Axim My Documents Backup

2) Get rid of the partnership directory where ActiveSync keeps track of your axim. Delete the following directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\Axim

3) Using REGEDIT, remove the registry key associated with this partnership.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners\

The isn't always named the same as your machine is, however when you highlight those nodes, you can see on the right-hand pane what the machine name is. When you find the one that's called 'Axim' just delete that node. Leave the node called "FFFF" alone.

4) Name your machine 'Axim' on the device as before.

5) Resynchronize your Axim with the host PC again - re-creating the Axim partnership. ActivSync will re-create the directory My Documents\Axim My Documents. That's OK. Once the sync is complete, just go back into explorer and copy the contents of My Documents\Axim My Documents Backup to My Documents\Axim My Documents. ActiveSync should then synchronize once again and restore the files to your device. After verifying that the synchronization was right you can go delete the backup version of the directory if you want to.

I've been through that process 2 or 3 times now and it has worked every time.

Cheers,
