PIM Data Backup

I am having problems with my x50v due to some trial softwares that I had recently installed. Now that I have exhausted all possible solutions, I am ready to do a HARD RESET and start all over again. Of course, I would like to save my PIM data (in PI 2005) before I do the reset. I do not plan to do a full system backup/restore because it will reinstall all the "bad" software that I am trying to get rid of.

My question is - does the "PIM Data Backup" utility in PI 2005 save all the "links", "category icons" and "icons attached to appts."? Last time when I did this, I lost all my icons and links. What did I do wrong?
