very imp battery question for a newbee

Hi guys, just came across this forum and believe me its really amazing. great job guys. keep up.
ok. i have a question. i have decided to buy dell axim x50. can some bdy tell me hou is the battery life like they provide with the system. my use of axim is more professionally for thngs like searching thru some medical software, writing notes, reminders etc inaddition to probably play music and browse net (including emails).
i was just abt to buy aximx50 and boom. there is another offer under deal of the week where they give an extra 1100mah battery. the price difference is just $18. i know its not much of a price diff, but i was wondering if my work doesnt need any kinda extra battery help, then why should i even spend few bucks on it.
hou long does the original battery lasts?
I would relaly appreciate any help guys. im kinda novice in this field and any help would b nice.
thank you
cheers
chelsea.

Welcome aboard the site. Hope you enjoy your new "toy", as you will be spending a lot of time learning how to use it, hehehe.
You usually get about 2-2.5 hours of continual use with a normal battery. The extended battery pretty much doubles that. But... normally you do not use the PDA continuously, except when watching a movie, or when playing music (in the latter case, by turning off the screen, you can listen to music for around 5-6 hours, or more)
Do a search in the forums, using the search feature up top, and you will get many threads relating to battery life on an X50v.

I'd go for the extra battery. It drains pretty slowly if you're only using the software you mentioned, or listening to mp3s (probably around 3.5-4 hours, though I haven't personally tested this). But if you're using wifi heavily, especially with power saving disabled, you can run down the battery very quickly. Last night I ran the battery from 100% down to 55% in around 45 minutes by streaming video over my network (I'm talking about an x50v, not sure which model you're looking at). If you're just web-browsing though, with power-saving enabled, wifi makes much less of an impact on battery life (especially with the new a03 rom). Still, a second battery will probably come in handy for every axim owner at some point.

Also depends on how close you are to a power source. I got an extended battery for free when I ordered my x50v but now that i have had it for a while I find I don't really use it that much. I have a cradle at home and an ac adapter at work so I stay pretty charged all the time, forgot about the x2500 Seidio cradle in the car too. But there are those times when the extra power is handy.

I enjoy the security of having the extra battery. As the old saying goes,"Better to have it and not need it that to need it and not have it".

Welcome aboard Chelsea. Don't forget to charge as recommended. If you get a second one buy a bigger one like the 2200.
