A03 Frequency change mechanism in power-save mode PXA270

Have you ever noticed how your lovely Axim X50v works in power-save mode after update?
With ROM rev. A02 in power-save mode it works as 208Mhz
After update to rev. A03 I have watched a movie on my axim and I
noticed how frequency change mechanism works until you are in power-save mode.
The CPU frequency changes form 208Mhz to 104Mhz depending on CPU loading.
I also did some tests.
I have downloaded small program CPUID which shows to you current CPU frequency and I was right about my theory.
After update to A03 in power-save mode X50v able to change CPU frequency form 104 to 208Mhz.
If you are interested in this case, you can download for free
CPUID program and do tests by yourself.

P.S. I apologize regarding my English, I am new in USA.

Also BetaPlayer has a function to show current CPU frequency
OPTION/GENERAL let you see current frequency.

Interesting finding, I guess Dell is trying to increase the battery usage time. They know how much better it should be. Thanks for the link.

Yep, I always wondered why they ran it at 208 Mhz as the minimum, when the processor wasn't doing any work to mention. Glad they lowered that bar a bit! Seems like I don't need to carry spare batteries when watching movies from now on!

A02 could also set the CPU to 104 MHz. I saw that many times before updating to A03. I just think that A03 is more aggressive in setting the speeds.

Yup, I like how the A03 update seems to have made the x50v smarter at handling battery power issues. It definately tries alot harder to save you as much juice as possible when in Auto or Power Saving. I think it's great. I'm still getting a spare battery though. :)

Also for those of you who want an mp3 player that is good on saving juice try GSPlayer. I used pocket music all the time, and I love how it looks alot more, but with GS player, I set my Axim to auto, and used GSplayer. It turns off the screen completely after 15 seconds (and most likely goes to 104 Mhz), but you can still hit the d-pad to change songs. I swear to you that after 1 hour of music I had only used 10%, lets say 15% to be safe. That is a big time savings.

I still keep pocket music installed, because I love how it looks and the interface I show to people all the time, but for battery drainage GSplayer really is worth a try. I had tried it once a few months back and it had some bug where I couldn't always go track forward, but now that is gone with the newest version.

Yes, it could, but only in the cpu-auto mode x50v could set the cpu to 104Mhz, but now it can set it to 104Mhz when your device is seting in power-save mode. Before the update to A03, X50 set cpu speed to 208Mhz in power-save mode, now in this mode Axim changes cpu frequency from 208 to 104Mhz depends on cpu usage and it lets us save battery power.

Ah, got ya. I misunderstood your premise because I've only ever run the X50v in Auto.

I set power-save mode when I am wathing a movie, because in this mode I can watch around 4 hours. It is advantage of Intel 2700G accelerator and it saves a lot of battery power.
