It is called a Hard Reset as alvinsiow has mentioned. It will return you pocket pc back to the state it was in when you first bought it.
If you are intending to do a hard reset anyway you might think about upgrading to the latest ROM A03 (english) A01 (other languages) if you have not already done so. I mean you may not want to but it is something you should be aware of :) You can get it from the Dell support website for whichever country you are in.
Cheers

wait, you may not have to go to that drastic measure. Do you surf the internet? try cleaning out your cache as that builds a lot of files. look to see where all the ram is going before doing a hard reset and having to start all over again.

I have a question regarding to "hard-reset".
Last week I wanted to return my Axim to "factory state" and for that purpose I done next:
1. Hard reset
2. Removed main battery for whole night.
3. Removed SD and CF cards and formatted using card reader.
Results after that:
1. BIS still contain all data added by me
2. When I started PIE I have same mobile favourites as before reset.
Now question. What I ready need to do in order to return Axim to factory state? Does anyone know?

You might want to search for files on your PPC, sometimes the record button is pressed and a long recording eats up all the available memory. If you see a big .wav file that may be the problem, however, it should have been fixed with a hard reset.

Both of you: When you do a hard reset, even taking the battery out for an extended period, the BIS does not get erased. You have to remove them yourself. Not sure what you had as favorites but if you did a sync then they will return if that is one of your sync folders. Trillian, when you did the hard reset did you look after it started up to see what was in the main mem? It doesn't seem like it actually got hard reset though I have seen the hard reset not actually clear everything and had to do it a couple of times to get it back to original.

BIS is not erased with a Hard Reset. That's why I put my backups there for when/if it crashes. If PIE is storing the mobile favorites there then they will also survive a hard reset. Also, the default mobile favorites are stored in the ROM files, so they will be the "seed" favorites for the file itself after a hard reset.
To get rid of the BIS files you will have to delete them by hand.

OK, in that case with hard reset we do not have factory default state because we still have some data saved from previous state (regardless are they in RAM or BIS).
Is there any other procedure that will remove everything (100%) from PPC and make it "really new"?

Just use explorer to delete everything in BIS (there is a folder called BIS) and do a hard reset, then it is all gone. If you want to be extreme you can download Resco File Explorer and use it to format the BIS.
Cheers

I've noticed that my BIS has 3.86 mb left, even with no files in it. Would a format take care of this? Is a format is anyway harmful?
