XBox Media Center and PIE

I have a modded Xbox running XBox Media Center build 4/20/05. I like using the webserver so that I can control XBMC from my PC. I tried accessing the webserver through my Axim and although it does connect and I can play different songs, the screen is seriously corrupted and hard to see. Plus the Pause, Skip, Back, etc buttons dont work at all.

Is there another browser that can handle this type of webpage better than PIE?

I've noticed PIE doesnt handle certain types of sites, so I am hoping this is just a browser compatbility. For what its worth, from my main PC, both IE and Firefox can connect to it fine.

Wow, that sounds like a seriously cool feature... I'm running an older version of XBMC that I use to stream DVD ISO's from my server but that would be awesome to control the music playback and stuff from my X50v! is that a new feature in the version you mentioned?

XBMC - use a pocket web skin

Hey,

XBMC has had the "web server" feature for many months... just go into the Settings and you'll find a place to turn it on (under Network I think, right next to the FTP server setting).

There is a subdirectory on the xbox where all the remote control pages get served up, and I think they're usually ASP. Usually these pages are included with an XBMC skin... I know that Project Mayhem I is probably the default web skin on most of the builds over the past 5 months. You can get individual web "skins" (just new sets of pages to put in the subdirectory) that are specifically formatted for the PPC screen size.

Get yourself over to a decent Xbox skins site and run a search. I know that when I did 6 months ago, I managed to find two web skins specifically for XBMC. Both work!

Thanks Ben! I will definitely look into a different skin for the webserver. You are right, the one I have is still the Project Mayhem I skin. I am using PMIII on the Xbox itself.

Not to hijack my own thread, but I find it funny how Microsoft is really pushing the new media center feautres that Xbox360 will have like its some great new idea.

I am glad I have been able to do all the same stuff and probably more for the past year or so! :D

My modchip has a switch, so I can have both Xbox Live and a modded system...just cant do both at the same time.

Youre right though, it does need to be added on, but theres so many chips out there, and installing one is simple as heck. Plus I'm a geek and like to tinker with stuff! :D

Besides, the Media Center Extender software (included with Xbox 360) has one thing that XBMC lacks (and probably always will): streaming television from your MCE's TV capture card (with live stop/pause PVR functions)...

But aside from that, I agree that a modded xbox seems equally capable. Mine is soft-modded; I'm too cheap to buy a modchip.

Care to point us to these decent xbox skins sites that have PPC formated skins? I can't seem to find them...

there are not many xbmc web skins really. Chokemaniacs are the best. PIE and minimo seem to handle the web browser fine. I have played my music using them.

i have teh executer 2.6 and my buddy has the executer 3.0. Both run great. His xbox is having problems with networking. Mine runs great. I will have to say that he has the lcd screen which is neat but not the most useful. I love having a modded xbox. I use it for a media center and it's great.

I also had problems using the webserver accessed via my pocketpc (using the latest build of XBMC found in the usual places). I will have to look into it again and maybe try a different skin (usually they seem slow to update to the latest build)
