I'm not sure about the OP's computer, but my Inspiron 5150 doesn't have IR ports. Neither do most desktop computers. The issue affects ports on all computers, desktop or notebook.
I've been synching via Wi-Fi, but in ligt of the rumored removal of Wi-Fi sync in WM5, I bought a bluetooth adapter too. Now's as good a time as any to learn BT I guess.... :)

just out of curiosity, did dell "fix" this problem? i ask because, dell had sent me a new cradle and when i checked the "label" underneath, it had stated "rev.A01" on it. i know that the original one i had said "rev.A00".
what does it state on yours fried your boards?
so is there a danger to have the crade hooked up the a usb AND have the power supply connected to the cradle? i have 2 batteries, so i keep on in the cradle to charge while i am away or using one that is already charged.

Mine is a rev.A01 also and it fried my ports. No, Dell has not fixed the issue. They refuse to not only acknowledge the issue, but they won't even acknowledge those of us who complain to them.
I stuck my post to the top of the Axim forum on Dell's site to see if that will get their attention. I Don't expect much to happen other than someone will probably come along before too long and un-sticky it. Likely without comment.
I don't really want to bad-mouth Dell, but it seems as if they are a hit-or-miss with customer service. So far, I'm not impressed.

Yeah somone in this thread told me to report it anyway so they will maybe do something about it. HAHHAHAH i admit i had to laugh at that stupid statement. I have dealt with Dells poor CS over the years and i knew better to even bother. If i sent this PC to dell to have the USB ports fixed i would be willing to bet it comes back worse that it was when i sent it. So like i said i will use my PCI card usb ports and call it a day with Dell.

Hey, Einstein. That was ME that told you to report it anyway.
You quote me, answer me and then insult me in the very same thread?
Thanks...
My point was, if more and more people would complain, they MIGHT finally do something about it. Even if they don't they're getting bad press and it will drive down their sales.
Besides, if you don't think DELL will do something about it, why did you post here? What are WE supposed tgo do to help you if you're not willing to do anything to help yourself?

I posted to let people know that it can happen to them also if they are not careful. Not for your help ding dong. You apparently are new to Dell.... Bad press you must be kidding hahahhaha Dell sells more computers than you could ever imagine you think they care about a few people with a problem. Listen if they cared about customer service then they wouldnt out source to a country that noone speaks english. You really need to understand big business and where a consumer stands with a company as large as Dell. Oh and i did help myself i have a solution to my problem which i stated many times in this thread....
Dont take it personal HAHHAHHAA!!!!

Don't take it personal? After this? How about you bite me?
For your information, wise-ass, I worked field service for Dell for three years and have been working desktop support in a Dell shop for 5. I'm NOT new to Dell in any way whatsoever. I've worked with Dell from both sides of the desk and I know how they operate. I seriously doubt you are going to be able to tell me anything about them that I don't already know.
If you don't like, or don't agree with advice that was not only meant to help you but the community as a whole, don't take it. There's no reason to be rude. Pardon me for intejecting into your bitch-fest.
Have a nice freaking day.

ok .. err .. but is this problem just with Dell's cradle? or is it the axim's design is flawed?
if one were to purchase a 3rd party cradle, would the problem still exist? .. actually .. DOES a third party even MAKE a cradle?

Did you have the AC adaptor plugged in to the cradle?

3rd party sync cable

I bought a 3rd party sync cable and it fried the usb ports on my work pc...twice! So, it doesn't matter if you use a "authorized" Dell sync cable.
My workaround is this...I sync my x50v at work with my 3rd party sync cable, then immediately unplug it. From all the other threads about this problem, if the x50v is just turned off and recharging, then it's ok, but if you are syncing AND recharging, you will have problems. It's been over 10 days now and my work pc is ok.
I don't have any problems with the powered sync cradle at home, so I can't speak on that.
Good luck!
