Question Auto power off in cradle?

First off, HELLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! :)

I am a very proud new owner of a Dell Axim x50 and LOVE IT!

I'm having all sorts of fun playing around with bits, finding cool software etc. but I have one nagging question at the moment that I cannot seem to get an answer to.

In the 'power setting' options you can set your Axim to auto shut off after a set period of time with no activity, both when running on battery or on mains power. You can do the same for screen dimming.

For example I have mine set to switch off after 2 minutes when running on battery and 5 when on mains. HOWEVER, I have noticed that when in general use (i.e. NOT connected to mains) all is operating as it should. When it sits in the cradle, the screen auto-dims after the set time but the unit never shuts off.

Anyone know why this is?

While it is in the cradle it is always "active" with activesync, just incase you chage an appt or address in outlook. There is third party software that will "turn off activesync" and this will then allow your Axim to turn off when you tell it to. But, to be honest the easy way is to just push the power button. Good Luck~

I don't believe it will turn off if it is 'connected' to activesync and your pc. is this the case when it is connected to your cradle?

Ohhhhhhhhhhh D'OH!!!!

I'm so retarded, why didn't I think of that!. Yup, of course Active sync is running all the time isn't it.....

I wasn't really too bothered, I was just satisfying my own curiosity and yes, pushing the power button is by far the easiest way to go.

Thanks for the speedy replies! :approve:
