ha... first and last time i'll ever hear/read that phrase.
mark is right. it's the same reason there aren't more gamepads for pocket pcs... the market is too small. especially if the gamepad only works with one model/brand of pocket pc.
it drives me nuts when people say things like "that product only cost the manufacturer $0.12, but they sell it for $35.00." while the plastic itself probably only cost $0.12 for that one unit, the mold to make each part cost $10,000-250,000... the r&d, design, and engineering of the product probably employed hundreds, if not thousands of people for up to 18 months, and i could go on and on about overhead. what it comes down to is that they have to sell tens or hundreds of thousands of units at that $35 tag just to make up what they've already spent.
software developers face similar problems. lots and lots of time and money invested in something that may yield little or no return. that's why the indie programmers or hobbyists are our best hope for quality optimized games. i have some friends who are doing just that (i'll be doing some of the artwork), and hopefully we'll turn out a great game. just to make things more interesting, we're going multi-platform (xp, osx, and pocket pc) so that everyone can play. :approve:
