Axim x50v Divx Xvid playable?
Ok, here's another question. (i'm a bit pedantic so i probably will drill through a whole set of questions before i feel sure of myself enough to buy the x50v).
Can the Axim x50v play Divx and Xvid files?
And if so does it need special requirements from the files, such as resolution, bitrate, etc. I'm asking becuase I watch a lot of anime and don't really wan't to be be reencoding video files for the rest of my life.

The magic word you are looking for is Betaplayer (it's very good and very free)

Yes the x50v can play DivX and Xvid files. You just need to download a player to do so. The latest unstable build of BetaPlayer is the best available. It can take advantage of the x50v's built in 3D accelerator to greatly improve video playback. It's also free, which is great.
It can also handle high bit-rate videos without problems. It can play my 1 GB+ XviD movies with 5 channel AC3 audio better than my girlfriends iBook. There is no need to re-encode any video for this PocketPC. Unless storage space is an issue.

Use betaplayer. Doesn't need special codecs on the Axim and you don't have any requirements. Drop a xvid file onto storage card and watch. Limited only by the size of the card. The only time you would need to change a video is if you were trying to fit it on say a 128mb card. Speaking of cards, rather than buying 4 small ones.. Go with the biggest you can afford. 512 should do it, but if you have extra, go with 1GB or higher. You'll be glad you did! Not having to carry a dozen little cards that can get lost is nice.

Also if the bitrate/audio is low enough, roughly under 1.3Mbit/sec then you can stream the anime through wifi, and then you'll never have to worry about storage space.

thanks, excellent news, now all i need is for dell to have another deal that they did like a month ago.
So how much do these 2GB cards cost?
And how easily can you play programs designed for pc in your x50v (assuming that the hardware requiremetns are covered by the axim, i.e. how software compatible is it with regards to pc software)?
Thanks for all the replies.

Ever heard of google? Try it, just write down 2gb cF or 2gb microdrive and hit enter in your keyboard. Ask questions that won't make you look silly or lazy.

Obviously i know that. But i was aksing more form the point of view of best places to buy them from. On the internet the prices can be hugely different between big stores that come up on google and the small stores that coem up on googles 10th, 11th pages. Seeing you guys know the good shops from the bad, its easier getting the heads up.
For instance gigi already gave me heads up on whre to buy the battery from and also helped my out by pointing me to the fact that the forum has dicsount codes wtih these shops. Which will probably save me a lot of money.
P.S. thx tancerman
