Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and Ad-Hoc

I'm trying to set up an ad-hoc internet connection on my X50v with internet connection sharing (ICS) in windows xp. Anyone know how to do it? ( if so, please tell me! )

Here is what I did:
1. Changed Axim name from pocket_pc to GXT
2. Set up an open, unsecured Ad-hoc network on my windows computer and my pocketPC (called GabeRebirth)
3. Manually set the IP address of the computer to 192.168.0.3 with domain 192.168.0.1
4. Put my PPCs IP the same as computer's but with a 2 as the last number instead of 3 (192.168.0.2)
5. I disabled windows firewall.
6. I enabled ICS on my computer's dial-up connection, using my computer's Wireless Connection as the gate

SPECIFIC:
7. On my PPC, changed both internet access types to use "My Work Connection" and not "My ISP"
8. Under "My proxy server" I checked the first option, "This network connects me to the internet.", leaving everything else in there blank.
9. I turned powersave mode OFF for my pocket PC wireless.

RESULTS:
It turns out I can share all my files!!! But that's not what I was looking for. When I opened PIE, it kept saying "Page cannot be found." No internet applications worked.

Why? It seems the connection is present (obviously, because I can access my computer's files!!), but the internet portion is not (or is disregarded). Anything specific I might want to check?

Have you tried the wifi tutorial on aximsite?

http://wifi.aximsite.com/ :approve:

Also quick note, that on an Ad-Hoc connection it wont give you the signal strength with the green bars at the bottom of the today screen.
But do say if it does show up on yours

Ah, you're right! Well, I got ad-hoc to work, and I can actually see my computer's files on my Axim! Now that is cool.

But I still have a problem. Even though ad-hoc works and connects flawlessly, I still can't get on internet with the ad-hoc connection. How do you get ICS to work? Whatever I do seems to do nothing. Any tips?

PS: Yep, I checked out the guide at wifi.aximsite.com, but it didn't say all too much about ICS and ad-hoc; my ad-hoc connection works beautifully but I still can't get on internet with it.
What should I do?

The Guide doesn't say much about ICS because there are extensive help files, both in WinXP and on the M$ website. It looks like you have ad-hoc set up with static IPs? Did you enter the WiFi adapter on the PC's IP as the DNS in the Axim?

there is in start --> settings --> connections ---> connections -->proxy settings ..edit my proxy server , then it should say my work network at the top , check this network connects to the internet , and check this network uses a proxy and in the proxy box put 192.168.0.3 as this is the address of your comp with ICS running. I dont use ICS, I use a free proxy server called proxy+ for my network.

You don't need to specify a proxy. ICS it doing port address translation, not just proxying.

What does this mean? Do I just put my (computer) wifi card's IP into the DNS field on my Axim's wifi config?

Yep. With ICS it will probably be 192.168.0.1. Alternatively, you can add the DNS from your ISP if you can find out what it is.

ikehiker, stumonster, howard2k, all the people at aximsite... I can't get over how helpful you are to everyone, even to a worthless fool such as myself. I hereby extend my heartfelt thanks for everything you've helped me with here.
Cheers
