If you got Pocket PC magazine, then you would have heard that there are a lot of worms and viruses targeted at Pocket PCs this year. I still would like to get McAfee, but has anyone been able to set it up?

AVs or firewalls for PPCs is just bait for muppets with excess cash. Don't be a fool.

even if as you say theres more viruses targetted at the ppc it doesnt matter - normally the only way to get a virus is through human fault - not technologies. its like on ur pc - if you click allow or something and don't know what it is its your own fault.

therefore i render antivirus useless

Has anyone here ever used Airscanner, which is a free anti-virus application?

Yes, but I had to call McAfee Customer Service to get it activated.

Like you, I figured better safe than sorry. Nothing detected...yet. McAfee is downloading updates. Last one was on 30 May 2005.

Thanks! You're absolutely right, it is better safe than sorry. So, does the software work good?

Not quite - viruses are self propagating and rely on technological exploits.
Trojans, Spyware and other Malware rely on social engineering, human fault etc. to propagate.

Commons sense can significantly reduce the risk, but it does not eliminate it. Common sense with a decent up to date OS and firewall can almost eliminate. Maybe I'm paranoid but even with a closed firewall I would not run a windows machine connected to the Internet without anti-virus.

The only reason I could see it is needed to have AV on a PPC is if you recieved a email on your PPC with a virus and then went to sync it with the desktop/laptop. (no AV on PPC=transfers virus to desktop/laptop) More than likely the PC would remove the virus, but that would be the only case I can think of that it would be useful. Unlikely needed, IMO.
