Dont do it. This software is extremely difficult to activat. I purchased from Dell with PDA, installed it and could not get it to activate. Mcafee customer service was no help either.

You don't need it as there are virtually no known viruses for the Pocket PC platform. Waste of time/money.

It's like that line from the Simpsons.....
"I can say this rock keeps away tigers. You don't see any tigers around do you?"

would you say that a firewall on a pocket pc is tiger chasing rock?

yes a firewall is also a big waste on a pocket pc both money wise and system resource wise.

Agreed, if you catch a "bug" (about a billion to one) just do a hard reset and bugs gone. Hardly worth the time and effort to even make such a bug. Save your money and get a good game instead.

Might not agree. If you use your pda to surf the net, you might inadvertently download a spyware. Just depends on what you do with your pda.

Seeing as PIE can harding "surf" as it is. I find it very unlikely you will get any spyware or virus that will run on it.

There is a total of 1 (ONE) virus that was written for Pocket PC. It doesn't transfer through the internet, it uses bluetooth to transfer itself to new devices. It also asks you if you want to run it. Pocket PC uses Intel processors but they have totally different architecture from your desktop PC processor, so not a single spyware or adware product that you might theoretically download from the internet is going to run on Pocket PC. Antivirus is a total waist of money and memory at this point, so is firewall software.

just like applications, computer viruses have to be compiled for specific Operating systems, and cpu types. so your run of the mill email virus wouldnt affect your ppc.

When I get an email which looks like it could be real but I am not sure I make a point of opening it on my Pocket PC because of the fact that any virus or spyware attached to the email should be totally harmless in that environment. And sometimes I open emails on my pocket pc that I am sure are at the least phishing since I am not worried about infecting it and have a certain level of curiousity about their tactics.

Small problem with that, spyware is designed to function (99% of the time) under windows 95-XP with a x86-32 processer.

Programs for the pda have a completly different API, and use a ARM4V, which has a different endianess (the way the processer handles data FIFO or FILO).

Spyware makers will not make spyware for the Pocketpc for a few reasons
1. Hard reboot = no more zombie, this is quick and most of us know how to do it (unlike windows users with reformatting)
2. Small market segment
3. Not "always connected"

Virus's might become a problem in the future, but spyware wont be till all 3 of the above are solved
