i received my Axim x50v just this weekend - and upgrade from my QVGA WM2003 Loox 610 (WF/BT)...
however, since i was coming from a PPC with 128MB RAM, and about 25MB Flash - i could really feel the pinch in the Axim... i only had a few (around four or five) programs "minimized" in memory, and god ---> i only have 6MB remaining...
closing ALL programs however, didnt do much, and im still using about 20MB of the 40MB allocated to program memory (i around 20MB allocated to storage memory - which at the moment has 8MB remaining)...
i just dont know what to do...
if i have most of my programs stored in the external SD card (regular speed non-branded 512MB), or in BIS; the Axim crawls!!!
if i do install most of my used programs in MAIN ram - i suffocate...
what the hell was M$ thinking? 128MB RAM was already the norm - and they brought it back to 64MB? well, there may be the case that the "persistent" storage has been increased to 128MB - but look at the read/write speeds...
could anyone provide some advice on what best to do? memory performance hints anyone?
for one, i have already transferred some common DLLs from MAIN RAM, and only have the Today plugins (Uptime, PocketPlus, WorldMate 2004 Standard) and some "unruly" apps (powerOne Finance 5.0, QMail, and Fitaly 3.5) in MAIN RAM...
also, what is this Odyssey Client? what is it for?
cheers!!! and thanks!!!

1. Ok, odyssey client is an improved wlan client (more options) then the built in dell wlan utility.
There are 2 copies of odyssey on your pocket pc. One is in rom and one is in ram. The one is ram is not needed and just takes up memory.
To get rid of it, create a new file on your desktop called OdClientCE.exe
Now, to overwrite the existing copy of odyssey, move the new created file from you desktop to Program files-->Funksoftware---->Odyssey Client. (on pocket pc)
This will get 2mb of ram free.
2. INSTALL ALL PROGRAMS TO BIS OR STORAGE CARD. I might go slow but it saves your ram. Trust me... just do it.
3. After a soft reset, you will have more ram free.
4. Clear you PIE cache. You can do this by going into PIE and clicking Tools--->Options--->Memory. Here you can clear your cache and delete history.
5. You can try buying Memmaid. This is a very helpful utility for keeping your ram free. This will automatically delete PIE cache, dead registy, and other stuff.
You can check MyPDA to see some of software I have. I have even more than that, but I still have 40mb of ram free. I usually allocate 6.5mb of ram for storage and around 34mb for program.
oh yes, i forgot to mention in my original post is that i also have Memmaid which allowed me to move PIE's cache, as well as the common DDLs from the MAIN memory...
as for Odyssey, ill try to give it a go tonight...
as for moving programs, yes, most of my dozen apps are already in BIS - those that remain in RAM are those that im not sure whether it works or not... for example with PowerOne, i remember reading that apps that keep LOGs would be advised to be installed in MAIN RAM (and PowerOne keeps lots of LOGS) and though it is a big program, i guess i had no choce...
anyway, ill go and check your setup, and see what i can learn from it...
thanks again...

why did you upgrade to the dell?
just wondering.....
bad support basically...
wherein the vendor releases a product series, then suddenly drops support fort it ----> latest driver releases, new model updates that could take advantage of already-bought accessories, etc.
the Loox (like the Sony Clie that i also have), were just dropped by Fujitsu, and Sony, respectively... no driver updates, no software updates, no new models that are backward-compatible with the accessories, and poor user based (if there are more people using it, chances are high that id get third-party support, PLUS more third-party stuff getting created)...
