Yeah better off just getting a PSP or getting a big flash card and using one of the various DVD to PDA programs out there.

I find that a flash card is cheaper than getting all of those movies for your PSP.
Think, if you get a 256-1g flash card for your axim, then you can have unlimited movies by transfering from your computer to the flash card. This way you can not only watch your movies on your handheld, but also your TV.
OR
Spend 15-30 bucks on a UMD movie and watch it on a PSP.

My thoughts exactly. I was torn whether or not to get the PSP or an Axim. I saw the PSP sometime the beginning of this year, the same time I was in a class with a guy that had an Axim. I knew at that point I at least wanted one of them. I decided on the Axim because, well, you could do more with it. And I didn't know how much gaming I would do with the PSP. Plus I'm trying to make everything SD compatable. I have two 1gb SD cards, one for music and one for video, with a 512mb on the way, and haven't looked back since.

Mmmm...speculation, thinking ahead of time about the impossible, then being dissapionted when the impossible doesn't live up to your expectations.

I just bought "Saw", the movie. (I have 3 other UMD movies as well). Hehe! I'll be watching that tonight on my PSP outside overlooking the beautiful NYC skyline. All you need is a blanket and you've got a party! :D
don't you need food/snacks too?

I thought the SD CF card movies was a good idea. Then I realized the following. Say that they did create DVD quality SD/CF card movies. Now say the capacity those DVD quality Movie cards were say 1-2 GIG which is standard for a DVD quality movie. Now say they sell those movies at 19.99 which is pretty standard. Can you say erase my movie and give me a 20$ 1gb SD card. Hell yeah I can. I would buy 5 movies just to erase them and have 5 1gb SD cards. It is for this reason that is not the most viable reason to sell in this format.

I bring this up because does anyone remember when Madden or Capcom Classics came out on SD card? I did that to those disks and got 2 256 mb SD cards when they were about 100$ themselves.

I say 60mm DVD-rs like the gamecube. With a CF interface... get your UMD style but with NORMAL disks. ^_^

Large SVGA screen, keyboard, camera, built in harddrive, UMD-RW drive, wifi and bluetooth, usb on the go. All running on a new 1ghz xscale with lithium sulfur battery for 10+ hours of battery life. Maybe Dell could put something out like this as well.

I know this is in the wrong place but it's late and I didn't know what to do with it.
Now repeat after me: Laptop... Laptop...

UMD sucks, MStick sucks, proprietary are crap.

when the psp came out, i hesitated and considered whether i should get one. then i see my Gameboy & GBA sitting at the corner collecting dust, & my pathetic collection of cartridges (<20) i decided that i m never going to pay that much to buy UMD on PSP.

go axim...get an emulator to play the other games.

movies on flash would be soooo expensive (i believe a umd costs 2 or 3 bucks to manufacture adn the movies run around 20-30 bucks) flash movies (of the same quality) would have to be on a minimum 512 mb card (which is still low quality) and that would make 'em at least 40 bucks
thats retail for a 512 card...its much much much much much cheaper if you buy and bulk and are up the list in the chain near the manufacturer :approve:

I'd rather just buy a few extra memory cards and stick my movies on those, Lower power usage, and it doesnt add another 1/2 inch on the back of the Axim. and sony blows goats with their proprietary formats, one would think that they'd learn after betamax, then minidisc, then memorystick, and how about aTrac audio? supposed to be a mp3 killer, but sucked, because its not an open format, as well as the fact that mp3 was already the standard. the only way that another audio format could possibly take on mp3 is for it to offer a similar improvement as mp3 did as compared to wave when it was released, where a wave song was 200megs, an mp3 was 5megs, so the next killer would have to be (impossibly) 50K, at the same cd transparent quality.

Well, i've ranted enough,
UMD on axim will never happen. ever.
