I am running WisBar.
I tried it after exiting WisBar but I never tried it with WA completely unloaded.
I'll give it a shot.

Should be able to just shut it down. I also updated to A03 so that might be it too.

Nope.
Shutting down WA changed nothing.
It must be a comflict with something becaue I just tried running it in "Safe Mode" and it sort of worked.
Farther than I'd gotten before anyway.
I got the DOS box on the screen but it looked like it was having a refresh problem.
When I brought up the SIP I got the command prompt and I was able to type but when I closed the SIP I also lost the command prompt.

This is driving me nuts!
I can get it running in Safe Mode but the DOS program I need needs 80x25 and in Safe Mode I can't run any virtual display drivers.

Greetings,

I am not an axim owner. I found this forum from my site referrer log. I am the "poor dev guy" who created the Pocket PC version of DOSBox 0.63 that DT was writing about. DT is right. I initially created this piece specifically for my own use, and since it work so well for me, I decided to share it freely. I got a few pats on my back, including one from DT I think, but its just not enough to keep me going.

[Hi DT, how's weather at Reno]

But being a "poor dev guy" that I am, I simply couldn't resist fiddling with it for more improvements during my spare time. I will probably be publishing "Release 2" soon.....just for the heck of it.

Cheers

Use the mapper

:D
Without the mapper.conf file, you will not be able to get the "Shift" key on the SIP to work either. That is why the mapper.conf file is there. You can create your own customized mapper.conf file by running dosbox in mapper mode (please refer to the original dosbox.sourceforge.net documentation).

Hence, you should be able to map the SIP tilde key into a regular tilde key using mapper.conf.

Cheers

Greetings back at you and welcome.
:)

Looking forward to the next release.
Please give us a heads-up when its ready.

As is it's still head and shoulders above some other DOS emulators.
Thanks for your hard work.

Volunteer Wanted

I realized that it won't work on an Axim "out of the box". [It does on my XDA 11 mini]. The Axim owner will most probably need to change the conf file, among other things which I don't know about on Axims. Can somebody who has already got it figured out whip up a detailed guide for both X50 and X50V? I will host your guide page in my site, OR you can host it in your site and I can link to you.

On another subject, what is the interest level if I can come up with something on Pocket PC which will allow o/s installation of win95/98SE/ME......heck....even W2K and WXP if memory allows?

Cheers

Installing another OS would be very cool. I'd probly give it a try for the hell of it and if it were stable much then use it :). How about linux too? :D Its always cool to see interesting projects starting. As for pDOSBox though it doesnt quite work for me, just the spinning loading logo until i soft reset... Whether I get it working or not though, great job Wall!

This would be interesting to see, but would it be an emulator or a full O/S which you couldn't switch easily out of? Even if it runs fully, what kind of performance would we be talking about? Could it actually run a large program or would it just be GeeWiz thats cool?

Many pats on the back, Wall :)

I figured I'd let everyone know what I'm running so we can try and narrow down what is causing the pDOSBox problems for some people.
Here is my current configuration:

Dell Axim X50v
A03 BIOS
Gapi Tweak
Pocket Command Prompt (included in pDOSBox zip, and necessary)
SE_VGA with a setting of True VGA (works fine in QVGA mode too)

I don't have any special software running in the background. This includes anything that shows the current weather, calendar, etc. I have a pretty clean installation on my Dell.

I have pDOSBox running in a 320x240 window for the time being, just so I can see the whole screen.

Make sure you use the configuration setup for pDOSBox that I posted to this topic earlier. Remove ANYTHING in the Autoexec area of the conf file if you still can't get pDOSBox to work. For some reason, mounting drives can lock it up, so it's best to test it first to see if it works without them. You can always mount them later (for the quasi-computer illiterate, mounting a drive means converting a directory into a drive letter in DOS).

I'll see if I can get a guide written up to help others out, but first we need to figure out what's locking some people up.

Well I noticed that with pocket console installed (on ram), whenever i try to open CMD.exe it gives an error: 'there are too many console windows open' when really theres nothing but the file explorer (tried resco and the windows one). Maybe thats why pDOSBox wont load?

No, that is not it. In fact, you don't need pocketconsole to run pDOSBox. [At least that is how it is on my XDA II]. Please read the "Limitation" section of http://www.pocketwall.com/pDOSBox/details.htm

Pocketconsole is only required if you intend to launch pDOSBox from the StartMenu, and the only purpose of pocketconsole is to provide the SIP button for pDOSBox.

But if you launch pDOSBox from File Manager, you don't need pocketconsole. If you already have pocketconsole installed, you should uninstall it.

Release 2 of pDOSBox should have its own SIP keyboard, and probably sound support if that means something to anybody. I took sound out because I don't need it.

One more thing: about the endless spinning loading icon. This will happen if you have not enough storage-memory/program-memory. If you have large files (e.g. your XXX porn wmv files) located anywhere apart from "/Storage Card", move them to your Storage Card. Check your memory slider if you have at least 13 MB of program memory.

Hope this help.

Enjoy Guys.

I've got between 18-20MB free (all of my porn is on my CF card ) and I still can't get it to run.
It does run when I boot to safe mode so there's either another program conflicting with it or it needs more than 20MB.
In Safe Mode I've had it working both with and without Pocket Console so I agree that that part is not necesary.
