Perhaps we can get a list of the software you have installed? I'd really like to narrow it down, and if it is something installed, then maybe we can figure it out by referencing different people's configurations.

I just checked my memory settings, and I have 6.69mb of storage memory, and 20.33mb of program memory. Dosbox runs fine with that.

Since I have no problem with running pDOSBox, then I won't post my hundred different applications for now, but I can at least compare what you have installed with mine and others.

It would also be good to post your Bios version, whether or not you're running the GAPI tweak, whether or not you used my pDOSBox config, and whether you've used any other tweak programs to modify your Axim.

We'll figure this out one way or another :approve:

Me too!
:)

WisBar Advance 2.4.0.1
Pocket Plus 2.5
Microsoft Voice Command 1.5
Calendar+
SafeMode
Softick Card Export II
DoubleLaunch

No GAPI tweak.

Thats about it for the things that run on StartUp or in the background.
I can't imagine anything like Tetris or Resco File Explorer interfering with it.

I've deleted the StartUp links to WA2 and Voice Command and that didn't help.
I disable the PocketPlus and Calendar+ plugins and that didn't help.
The last three above don't have options to disable them so I guess I'll have to try a complete uninstall of those.

Appreciate it if you can try the last three to help narrow this down.

Another thing to consider is to check whether you have libc.dll and sdlgcc.dll in your /windows directory. These two dll files may be there while you were trying Mamaich's dosbox 0.61. You MUST remove these two dll files from /windows (and any system path) to prevent them from loading.

Cheers

I figure that's better than entertaining 50++ individual emails per day.

Well, it's not those three.
And no sign of those two DLLs you said to look for.

The problem seems to be a combo of PocketPlus with Voice Command.
I uninstalled apps one by one until I got pDosBox working and those two are the problems.
Now I just have to find out why......

I tried disabling all of the PP Options including the Today Plugin but pDosBox still wouldn't run.
It looks like it needs a complete uninstall or I can go to Safe Mode: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...t=86679&page=1
In addition to not having Pocket Plus running I also can not have Microsoft Voice Command running.
That's an easier fix though.
With that one all I have to do is remove the StartUp link.

With those two apps killed I can get pDosBox running with all of the rest above -- even WisBar Advance.
Put either one back and no pDosBox.

Great finding gjw! And thanks for your work. From your report, I can only speculate that both PP and VC somehow do some pre-reservation of some chunks of memory that the memory slider can't (or prefer not to) detect. But then how did Safe Mode fixed them? Perhaps I should ask the guy who wrote Safe Mode..

Any WM2003 internals expert here who can confirm/reject my speculation?

The safe mode application forces the pocket PC to boot up without running any software at all, including the two bad programs. That would explain why safe mode worked.

Can anyone else having problems confirm whether or not it's just these two programs causing the problems? If it is, then we could finally have a work-around tutorial put together.

I don't even have those two programs installed on my x50v and it still doesn't work. I get the spinning hour glass as well. If I boot using "safe mode" it does indeed work fine. I really don't want to go through uninstalling program by program until I find the one at fault. But, I will do it if I have to.

Actually, is there a program that lists all of the running programs just like "Task Manager" does for Windows 2000, XP? If that is the case, I, we, could kill off a program one at a time until the pDOSBox started working. :approve:

I'm pretty sure you can kill running processes with MemMaid.

Another one is JShell, from Microsoft's WM Developer Power Toys suite.

I don't think this is going to be an easy fix.
I compleletely uninstalled PocketPlus and installed OmegaOne's Battery Pack Pro 2 and I got the same problem.
It's a very similar program but I doubt that they share DLLs or memory space.
Unless its' got something to do with their common nature as Today Plugins.....

I suspect that it just needs a huge amount of resources to run.

PS. I went back to Pocket Plus.
Battery Pack Pro 2 still is not X50v friendly.

Oooh, I got it working by trying different combinations of removing things from the "\Windows\Startup" folder and today plugins. For me, removing "MultiIE" and stopping the "Journal Bar" today plugin makes the program run. But, only ONE TIME. If I exit from "DosBox" and then try to launch it again, I'll see the hour glass thingy.

Oh, and just to say it. Stopping the today plugin wasn't good enough. I had to reboot the Pocket PC before it worked. Why, why, why, why, why? This makes no sense to me personally.

Wait a minute... I just put "MultiIE" back into my startup and rebooted. At this point "DosBox" is still working with all of my startup stuff intact. The only thing disabled is "Journal Bar". But, I know I tried disabling it earlier and rebooting with "DosBox" NOT working. So, what gives? Did I upset the order of booting operation and that made some kind of difference? Aaaah, I'm tired of this.
