"Just an update.
I ended up going with PocketDos." (as compared to pDosbox or Dosbox)
HalfDecaf: There are lots of memory tweaks you can do. The key is in the config.conf
Edit config.conf and look through it. Dell Axim's can have up to 7mb EMS.
Just crank up a few things that stick out (cpu=full). The included "SI.exe" program is your friend. It shows CPU benchmarks and memory usage stats. Use it to crank up some settings. I run my CPU at about 5000 marks, but I've found that my Axim x51v will top out at 8000 which results in about 120mhz. Anything more doesn't really do anything except make it run REAL sloppy.
Just backup your config.conf file and hack away at it. The file is pretty detailed and has lots of comments and examples.
I actually have DosBox, pDosBox, and PocketDos on my Axim right now. They are so small that it doesn't hurt to keep them all on my SD card and run them as needed.

Player911: You have Dosbox on your ax? Is that the same one that runs on PC's? That is what I have on my laptop -- it is version .65. I love it. Allows me to run tons of progs that were written for doing my job.
Regarding pdosbox, I am familiar with the dosbox.txt file in pdosbox BTW, I am using v 2 beta, not 1.1. V2 doesn't seem to have a file named config.conf or dosbox.conf file, but the dosbox.txt file seems to do the same thing as the dosbox.conf file in 1.1, tho. Nothing regarding environment space in there. Environment space keeps path statements resident and the like. Maybe it is possible to have a shell statement in there. Hmm. Like you said, I can back it up and play around to see if a shell works.

Yea there is an actual DosBox (not pDosBox) although they are very similar. But I do know that Dosbox works where pdosbox will not. Both DosBox and pDosBox are based on v 0.63 CSV
pDosBox is a slimmed down FAST version for gaming but not the most compatible.
DosBox is the whole enchilada and ran every dos app I threw at it.
PocketDos (1.11 was screwy on my x51v, but 1.10 worked great) was the winner of my precious PPC memory because not only did it run every app... but also allowed me to redirect my Serial port so that I can use my axim for direct serial connections for programming.

Do (any of you) you happen to know where I could get this beta (or something even newer, if any)? Now that Wall's site is down, the only publicly available (on Michu's emupage) version is Release 1.1.

Yo, can somebody give me a good tutorial on how to get the original Prince of Persia from 1989, and Prince of Persia: Shadow and the Flame running on my Dell Axim with PocketDOS? Saving the game in File explorer doesn't let me excess it.
They are both DOS Games designed to run on Windows 95.

I think you should give a try to the NES version first in order to save battery life (you can play NES games on an, in cases, heavily underclocked handheld). Check out my NES emulator roundup.
