Yes, a speaker is simply an electromagnet attatched to the cone which works with a stationary magnet on the frame of the speaker. The audio signal is sent to the speaker as an alternating current (oscillating at the frequency of the sound, of course) and as the polarity changes at the frequency of the sound, the electromagnet in the cone is being attracted and repelled from the stationary magnet at this frequency, creating sound. Of course your axim's speaker is able to attract screws just as any speaker would.
No, a stronger magnet does not necessarily mean better sound. All a stronger magnet really indicates is a higher efficiency. I would only worry about the raw strength of the magnet in a speaker to be used for low frequency reproduction, i.e. a woofer or subwoofer.
