I was looking through the CD that came with my x50v. There is an installation for Activesync and Outlook but nothing for the OS that came with the X50v. My Question is how do you reinstall the os should the X50 screws up. The reason I ask is that when I installed the OZVGA, it ask that some files must be installed in the /windows directory. That was not a problem but it scares me that should something really screws up, I have no way of resetting it back to original state since a hard reset doesn't clear the BIS correct? How do you recover from a bad tweaks (regedit), install ect when it modify the BIS. Should something really bad happens how do you recover?
Maybe I am missing something here but can someone enlighten me?
A hard reset will restore your device to factory condition with the exception of things you store in Built-in Storage, that only changes if you remove it. The OS is in the Read Only Memory on your device.

Okay I understand but does that mean things like registry hack and also files that was added to the windows directory get removed and restored to factory settings?

Any hack/registry changes made to Main Memory (RAM) will be removed following a hard reset. However, any changes made to BIS will not be touched so you will have to manually delete those files.
The /windows directory is sort of interesting, since it is displaying both RAM content and ROM. (The part of flash ROM that holds the OS, not the built-in-storage.) Any changes you make will be lost on a hard reset, and it will be restored to factory condition.

That is my concern since with ozVGA, I had to install some files in that directory. So if I don't like it I am stuck with those files in that directory that happens to be in BIS.
The other question is should something really bad happens how do you clear everything and start over. IE (fomat reinstall os in the computer world). That leaves the question, I don't see the os in the dell cd that came with my X50v.
Remember not to confuse a soft reset as opposed to a hard reset, On your model a soft reset is pressing the little button on the back of your unit, sought of like a reboot is on your PC,sometimes required when installing app's, but a Hard reset is pressing that button as well as the power button at the same time, this will cause you to go back to factory condition's (as in when you first got your Pda from dell).:approve:

Anything you don't want in BIS can be manually deleted by going using File Explorer, then tapping/holding on the file name, then selecting Delete.
It is not possible to clear everything. A hard reset plus deleting everything in BIS will leave your device in the state it was in when you first got it. That's why the Dell CD does not contain the OS.

Understood...:approve:
But does that mean that there is no way that a user reinstallion of the os is possible if something really bad happens?

Thanks. that is somewhat reassuring but at the same time really scares me from installing things in the windows directory now.
I was responding and saw the post 8...thanks again

No need to be scared because anything you do to the Windows directory will be gone after a hard reset. Also, you can do backups before installing programs, making major changes, etc. so that if something does go wrong, all you need to do is restore. :approve:

That Hard reset is your user reinstall.
Oh you should always back up your system, between each install of software, that way if you run into a bad install you could always go back to just before you installed that app or game. The data backup utility is located on your machine at start|programs|data backup you should save to your card and or PC periodically and before installing programs or games:approve:

all the OZ_VGA files in the Windows Folder end with .96.dll. Remove those and you should be golden.
