Mobile Phone

I have to get a mobile phone. I hadn`t thought about using my Axim for internet purposes. Is there any particular type of phone that will be an advantage for this purpose, please?

Well, first item on the list, bluetooth. Never buy a mobile without bluetooth. If you do, you will regret it. From my personal experience, buy a sony ericsson, or nokia phone. They may not be the most stylish phones, but they are consitent and reliable phones to use and they generally have a very good bluetooth implementation. If you want a phone with a decent built in camera, get an SE K750i, it has a great camera. If you only want a phone for GPRS and mobile phone calls, I have never owned a more reliable phone than my Nokia 6310i, that is unless you count my current phone, a P910i, but that is an expensive phone to buy when you already own an X50.

Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for that. I don`t want the camera. With bluetooth - is that all I need for the connection?

No, it's much more than just the phone, it's your choice of carrier as well. GSM carriers (e.g., T-Mobile & Cingular) offers the advantage of SIM cards. You can also go CDMA (Sprint, Verizon) but I've read that Verizon doesn't allow you to use your phone with your Axim, so be sure to check into that more thoroughly.

If you don't have BT, you can also connect using a PDA to cell phone cable. They're sold at:

Cingular and TMobile seem to be the leaders with GPRS (internet for your axim). You will need to buy a data plan in addition to your phone plan and TMobile is probably the most cost effective :)

The phone company depends on where you live of course.

I live in the UK and since the A03 ROM, I've had good net access with a Motorola V3 Razr. As said above, get a Bluetooth phone. My PDA connects to my phone and dails Orange, my phone company, to set up a GPRS connection and that's that. I'm especially impressed by how quick it is - setting it up at first was fiddly (I had to phone Orange a couple of times to get walked through the setup process) but since then, it's been great.

If I'm at home, my PDA uses my Wifi and that's that, no problem. If I'm outside the house and I try to access the web, it attempts to dial through the phone (and is easily killable for when I mistakenly access the web) and in about 10 seconds, the connection's up. I don't have to touch my phone or get it out of my pocket!

This is rambling off-topic a bit but I just had to say, I'm very impressed with the whole setup.
