More Software=More Stable

I just thought I would post my experience. I have had my X50V since Christmas and love it. I knew nothing about pocket pc's when I got it, but did my research and now am enjoying it fully. It has been my experience that the more software I install on my Axim the more stable it becomes. I think the key is I only as a rule install free software. I have the whole line of GS programs installed and love them. I have read about too many people having problems with products they paid for. It seems to me that private developers take more care and pride in the programs they make than the people that are in it just for the money. For this reason if the developer is still active and has the ability to accept donations it is always a good idea. I for one am very happy that so many people have taken the time to make so many great programs that are free of charge. My axim is happy.

I guess I should put up a screen shot or two and maybe add something to mypda section. I will do that soon.

um, I don't think this is entirely true. I mean, I have SPB Pocket Plus, and it runs excellent. Free software is always nice, but there are many free programs have are very buggy. I mean if you go to pocket pc freewares, there are many programs that are rated 5/10 or less. But of course many programs are 5/10 or better. So I don't think this should be a RULE.

Just pick programs wisely.

My x50v is loaded to the brim. Its taken some time to find out where programs work best (main memory, built in storage, SD card, CF/microdrive) but overall, I think I have them all working together, careful not to get in each others way and still keep my axim snappy. See MyPDA for details.

patrickem, I think what you are saying may be true in your particular situation , but an overgeneralization for most people.

Even if this statement were true for all freeware developers, what about freeware apps that were great at one time, but abandoned later and thus no longer compatible with newer OSs? (Icbar is a great example.) Also, many freeware apps are released when they are still in alpha/beta stages.

The same applies for paid software as well. It seems that you have been fortunate and wise enough to have made good software choices. :approve:

It all depends on your needs...I install trials as often as possible to see if they work well then buy them...I don't have a lot of free software as most of it isn't something I used or needed. The x50v can be more stable by just installing your apps to one place and having plenty of meory to play with....works on mine.
