A hi tech engineer's time is typically worth about $200/hour to a company No, they don't earn that, but that is what they can create for the company. Many companies are more than willing to pay a thirdparty to do this type of investigative reporting as it's not only cheaper than doing it themselves, but most companies don't have the tools or expertise to reverse engineer stuff.
The company I work for used to do this when it was designing products. That function however, has been shipped to Asia along with all of the manufacturing. Locally, we are now a software house - sign of the times.
Browse the website and look at what has been reverse engineered and you will get an idea of the type of companies that would be more than willing to buy the reports. If my memory serves me well, I seem to recall another firm offering these services. That firm actually sliced the circuitboards up to see how many layers were used, the amount of ground plane shielding, the quality of the solder joints, etc. This is very important info if you're a company looking to get an advantage on your competetors.

Methinks, they sell it to some Chinese companies which then would reproduce it with a simplier design and cheaper parts.
After that there would be new device called Qinquick PDA 2k5, which would be almost the same as X50v.

It is something what is used for industrial espionage.
