i got my ipoq 4700 for 1 months, but the only thing that i don't like about it is the poor audio quality and no 3D engine. should i change it to compensate these drawbacks? any one please convince me with good of x50v comparing with ipaq 4700. i'm just worried that x50v is more worse than it. will it?
I tell you, man: "BUY IT!".
When I was thinking what do I want to buy I've reviewed PocketLoox 720, HX4700 and X50v.
Try to guess what I selected.
Just my opinion:
1) X50v has new Intel video engine with 16mb. The issue is not memory, the issue is absolutely new video solution.
2) X50v has built-in hardware equalizer. See the sticky on that.
3) No touchpad!
4) It is a little bit smaller...
5) Something else, don't remember what exactly.

I mean it's new, it's better than ATI as it has some new features implemeted. It is does not only accelerates 3D, it speed ups 2D graphic, mpegs and so on.
Not sure how much better the X50v is in audio quality than the 4700. Would not have though it would be a great difference. (Feel free to correct me anyone). A lot has to do with the quality of the recorded MP3. Is there a great difference when listening to the music on your PC than on your IPAQ? (Using the same headphones)
Have you tried your recorded music on other players and had better. (Using same headphones again as they can make a big difference)
Have not seen many complaints about the 4700's playback quality.
In regards to the 3D engine. Not much software is utilising it at present so I would not rate it as a "MUST HAVE".
Don't get me wrong. My x50v is the best item I have owned and would recommend it to everyone, however im also trying to be unbiased in my reply.
I nearly went for the 4700. The only thing that put me off was the touchpad. Some people prefer it, some people hate it. Apart from that, they are reasonably similar in spec.
Would not want you to go to the trouble of swapping PPC's for no real gain.
Im sure the others in here will try to convince you to change over. Only because we all think highly of the x50v
FWIW: I recently switch from an iPAQ 4705 to the Axim X50v. Pros: Smaller size, hardware radio button. Cons: The screen is not as bright and crisp on the X50v as it is on the 4705. The touchpad was never an issue for me.

Well thats pretty much what I was going to say.. I'm not sure you get anything new (apart from maybe VGA out) but it is packaged differently (smaller and better looking
I had a chance of a refurbed 4700 for the price of my new axim when i bought it.. and it was the touchpad that killed the deal for me.
If you can make the numbers work in your favour after selling the HP then it may be an option

my ipaq 4700's sound quality is really poor, the bass distort at any level, it cannot even beat ipaq 2210. somemore it will generate hiss sound when earphone pluged in. sony MD is much much better than it hehe.
there is no problem other than that sound quality. touch pad seems nice working for me because i used to browse internet without using stylus. i can change it to x50v but jsut wanna confirm out any drawback of x50v? whether worth or not to do so?
tell me more reason why to choose x50v? more in detail thanks all....
Are you going to have to pay the full price for a X50v or are you going to take the IPAQ back and get a refund(from the shop or from selling)? I think that the X50v is the better pda but for the price, when you already have a very good pda, it isn't worth it. It also depends on what you are using it for, if you are desperate to get free of the touch pad for games then perhaps you could get a bluetooth gamepad or keyboard (although I haven't tried them myself). I have got a Toshiba e400 and comparing the audio on that to the X50v I would say that the X50v is marginally better but that depends on the files and program that you are using. But when running off the mains my X50v makes an annoying clicking noise when using heaphones, but I have got A01 hardware so maybe the newer versions don't have this. So if you are going to get a refund from the IPAQ then yes, otherwise I doubt it'll be worth it.
if i wanna change it to x50v, i will sell off my ipaq with ofcourse higher price than new x50v. you know i bought x50v once and i sold it immediately why? because it got dead pixel and dell doesn't want to give me a replacement because only 1 dead pixel on it. so i don't really test out how good is it. i'm worring the same case will happens on my next purchase from dell.
and I have read somewhere on this site that Dell exchange it even if there is only 1 dead pixel. Anyway, if you really have a dead pixel, just say you have a weird problem. I don'T think they really test them when you ship them back
Meh, they're both good, and the advantages of the x50v, in my opinion, you'd have to be a realy techie to see the differences. For me, the x50v is a LOT smaller and less bulky. I also wouldn't like the trackpad.

I'm a bit of an audio snob, and work for one of the audiophile hi-fi manufacturers - so sound quality on a PDA is a big issue for me. My own verdict is that the sound quality on the X50v is superb, therefore I'm over-the-moon with my purchase. I've yet to sell my previous PDA (an iPAQ 2210), so have had ample opportunity to do comparisons on a like-for-like basis.
In short, I find nothing at all to criticise in the X50v's sound. There's no hissing or crackling present, or any other type of interference. Subjectively, I find sound quality to be much more punchy, clean, and detailed - hence I'm enjoying my music much more. There's certainly no obvious distortion present that I can hear. If you've an ear for these things, then I'm sure you will be very satisfied. I've never heard the sound off the big iPAQ 4700 though.
If you go for it, then install the hardware equalizer listed as a sticky on this forum. As standard, the X50v is flat, with no tone controls on offer. The chap who came up with the modification ought to be knighted, because the application has no noticeable effect on sound quality, other than changing the tone. It's perfect for compensating for thin bass through in-ear phones and the like.
Very happy camper on this issue, and the X50v rocks full stop :approve:

I've not had any problems with my speaker except for WMEncoder bumping up the bass to when it distorts...I went with FairuseLE and don't have ANY problems with bass through movies or mp3's anymore...
Also, the 4700 does have an equalizer when headphones are plugged in. Sounds great too...no problems whatsoever. I stopped using my mp3 player and just have my 4700 clipped inside my backpack now. :approve:
Not sure if it's still an issue, but with the 3d chip, it scored lower on GAPI video tests for normal games and apps. Did teh ROM updates fix this, or is Picards GAPI driver still used?

Sounds exactly the same through both (corded & BT). I use betaplayer, movies are auto at 400MB through FairuseLE, and my mp3's are 128-192kbps bitrated.
Honestly I don't mind listening to music/movies through the speaker, but I normally use headphones (corded at work, BT at home.)
The sound was an issue for me and I found the X50v had better sound that the Ipaq 2410 I had before. I am a DJ so sound was kinda picky for me. I am happy with the X50v.
