Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade will be $39.00, ship in October

FYI - Dell's website is now offering "FREE Windows Mobile 5.0 Upgrade CD ($39.00 value)!" with several of the deals of the week -- the details say it will ship in October.

Nice.

Dunno if I'll upgrade immediately, though. I have suspions on the BIS's ability to cope with a role normally reserved for the speedy RAM. Of course, the apps are either stored on the SD/CF or in the ROM, but the registry will be stored on the BIS - applications which read loads of settings may find themselves with a unforeseen bottleneck. I predict a mass exodus to .ini files. As it should be.

The news would be even greater if they offered "US" existing Axim owners a free or "low priced upgrade". Thanx for the update.

$39 IS low cost, considering how much I spent on my X50V!

it makes me feel that dell is not going to introduce any new pure PPC this year. WM2005 image is about double of that of 2003, and obviously dell prepared for this by putting 128 mb in the BIS in the x50v. anyone with me?

I have read on a web site that Dell will definitly NOT release Pocketpc/phone for now. Next Axim feature will be Built in Hard drive (microdrive) But I also donT' think they will release a new line this year. Maybe early next.

built-in hard drive? i can't imagine syncing a 700 mb movie from my desktop to the ppc hard drive. that will take forever.

Hey! Good point, hadn't thought of that! If the new Ax doesn't come with USB 2, it'll be pretty unusable with large files.
