Can't activate MS Reader

Hi,

I've the A03 ROM version of the Dell X50v installed and after this, I re-installed my programs on to the device. However, when I try activating MS Reader 2.4 now at Microsoft's web site, it keeps telling me that my device isn't new enough and that PocketPC 2002 or newer is required!

Has anyone else hit this problem? It's very much persuading me to ditch MS Reader... However, I'd still like to find out what's the issue, if possible.

Cheers!

Edit: Sorry, please disregard email - after a few more searches, I found another similar article in the forums! I had it installed in BIS... So it seems that you still can't activate MS Reader in BIS

You can move to BIS after you activate.

Ah, that explains the problem I was having trying to activate. I pretty much try to install everything to BIS if possible.

This also explains why I had to change the Properties of the MsReader shortcut in Start > Programs because it was looking for the EXE file in Main Memory. I did this by opening Resco File Explorer and going to Windows\Start Menu\Programs, right-clicking on MsReader.lnk, choosing Properties > Shortcut tab > Target field, and typing (with quotes) "\Built-in Storage\Microsoft Reader\MsReader.exe".

You could also right-click on the MsReader.exe file wherever it's installed and choose Send To > Start Menu as Shortcut, and then delete the original incorrect shortcut.

And it also explains why I had to manually copy the four True Type fonts over to the Windows\Fonts folder. I noticed this because the left and right arroows for "next" and "previous" were not displaying correctly. It's because bkdings.ttf was not in the Fonts folder.

I assume you uninstall MsReader, and then reinstall it to Main Memory. Once you are done activating, you would then use something like Resco File Explorer to move the MsReader folder to BIS, as well as making the changes I mentioned in my last post. I don't think any Registry entries need to be changed as the eBook ones I see don't specify a path to the EXE, but rather they are where all your settings are stored. I only looked quickly though, so maybe I overlooked something.
