Hi Guys and girls. I have a quick question. First off I'm a newbie and I was thinking of buying the X50v, but wanted to know a couple of things first. First off, when I connect wirelessly to the internet and then onto msn messenger, is it possible to, say if someone was at home on their desktop computer to send me music files (i.e. mp3's) and pictures (i.e. jpegs) through msn messenger, would I be able to accept these file transfers and download them onto my axim. Secondly, can you surf the internet just as if you were at home on your desktop computer. And finally, how long is the battery life when you are playing music on it or how long is the battery life in general and what type of memory card do you suggest.
Thank you in advance for your answers, and thanks for putting up with my newbie questions.
I don't think MSN Messenger has that capability for the Pocket PC (it sucks, really) but you can use regular chat. You can surf the internet pretty much just like home, it's not just text like on your phone, and you might have some problems with some websites that do Java (at least I do).
Other than that, you can check out all the websites, download stuff off the internet. However, you can also connect to your network via Internet and just stream or listen to your music via your network. Having your whole mp3 library on your Pocket PC is nice.
I use CF card because they are cheap and have more space. Best thing about the Axim is you have both cards, just buy a big 2GB CF and then get a 2GB SD later when money may not be an issue.
thanks for the quick reply.... but one more thing i need to clarify... whats the best way to send pictures and songs through the internet without syncing my axim to the computer, by that I mean wirelessly...
battery life in general is below average, if i remember correctly around 3-4 hours, its longer if u just use it for mp3s and have the power hungry screen off. for the different kinds of memory it all depends on ur preference, if u have the money sd is lighter, cf is heavier but usually cheaper, also consider microdrives if u don't plan to move the pda too often up and down. =D not sure about file transfers, but i would say a yahoo briefcase might work, but not sure, wireless dl speeds are pretty slow though
I'm pretty impressed with my d/l speeds via wireless. BT is slow though. But for a hand held pc, and the motorola wireless g router i just got from compusa for $19.99 {no MIR}, I'd have to say it's great!
