Ok, I did a hard reset (after backing up, re-installed NVD and 96 dpi resource pack, put it at the max res. in the drop down menus for width and height, then reset, it worked, then I installed se_vga, it still worked, then I started to fiddle with NVD and put zoom to "fit to width" and the screen went black/blank. I Had to reset, still working on trying to isolate the prob. regarding the white screen :)

uhm, I don't think you need SE_VGA anymore with NVD.

I wonder if it could be caused by my thinkoutside bt mouse drivers, I know that nyditot said he used his ThinkOutside keyboard w/it but i'm not sure if the drivers for the mouse are actually running...

Yay! I figured it out. :D It (the white screen problem) is caused by the Stowaway keyboard and mouse driver. I am using 4.2 checking to see if it is the latest. I believe it is caused when you have it setup to use the mouse, because just installing it does Not cause problems!

***Update 4.2 is the latest***

***Update: There was really 2 "white screen" problems, 1 it would have a blank white screen after shutting my axim off and then trying to turn it back on When I had Virtual display enabled, I could turn it off, and then back on, and it would work perfect. Now when I have vd disabled it has blank screen when turning on and off.

2. bt mouse drivers caused nvd not to be able to change modes. After soft reset while still rebooting, white vertical lines fill the screen till completely filled with white.

So far I have found 2 problems, they may not be related.

1. Incompatible with thinkoutside mouse (I think)

2. Zoom problem=black screen (described above)

Hopefully I have been some help.

Thanks for your excellent detective work Jordan. I'm still not able to replicate the Zoom issue you mentioned but it looks like you may be correct about a problem with the Think Outside Bluetooth mouse driver (The TO BT keyboard seems to be happy). We would prefer that NVD work with any and all third party software so we'll definitely look into this issue but in the meantime you (et. al.) might want to try out NVD's touch pad mode. It's one less thing to carry as well!

Also CRXGSR is correct. Unless you’re using some of its other features, you do not need SE_VGA to achieve True VGA as setting NVD's DPI to 96 (rather than the default 192) does exactly this. We have not yet tested NVD is conjunction with SE_VGA so there may be a conflict there as well (TBD).

Your nag screen about 7 days expiry makes the software a little difficult to use, as it causes the Axim to hang for 30 seconds on power up. In my experience with Beta releases, 30 to 60 days is a minimum for doing something useful with a product and providing good feedback. Having said that, your product does appear to be very responsive, refreshing the screen quickly, and not resulting in any lag with normal applications. I've not had chance to try many of the applications, but:-

Adobe Acrobat Reader PPC 2 - Superb
Microsoft E-Reader 2.4 - Excellent
BetaPlayer - very impressive
Westek Clearsuite - Image viewer - not functional

Will report again with more feedback. What's the anticapted price for the release?

I'm going to upgrade to AO4 ROM Update and start installing apps and see how it goes from there :)

Sorry about the short trial period. I think 7 days is sufficient when trying out a final product but it is rather short for beta testing.

The Westek application is trying to take over the external display for it's own use but NVD already has ownership. If you go into the VD Settings applet and disable the external display while using Image Viewer it should work fine. You can toggle between NVD configurations using the VD Previous app (perhaps assigned to a hardware button) or by selecting the "Previous Settings" configuration from the VD popup menu (double click gold dot or run VD Menu). That way you can quickly turn the external monitor on and off.

For now the price will remain at $19.95.

Also please check out Excel and IE. You'll finally be able to see spreadsheets and web pages as they were meant to be seen!

PS: Actually the nag screen doesn't add any time to startup. It just comes up much earlier than anything else because that's when the video device driver (NVD in this case) loads and it doesn't go away immediately when you press the OK button because the OS hasn't started processing touch events just yet. It's just an annoying illusion that will hopefully make you want to buy it. ;)

Ok, after playing around a little more, I see why you weren't able to replicate the problem with zoom. I need to be more specific.

In the "VD Settings" on the "Properties" tab, Change the "width" to "2160" and "height" to "2140" click "ok" let it reset and then tell the zoom to fit to width (I think) and that should give you a blank, black screen. This is a bug, right?

Also, In SE_VGA it has the option to choose whether you have a true vga .tsk (theme, or background) or qvga, which allows the vga to display properly and in nvd's case maybe tile less(if it were an option...Just a though, although might not be possible/worth it

Ok, thanks for the details. I was able to confirm the blank screen with the settings you mentioned. Oddly the Fit Display and Fit Height work just fine so I'm sure this is a minor bug. Good work!

Regarding the Today theme, NVD has an option under the Miscellaneous tab called Today Zoom. This option allows you to arbitrarily magnify the background image on the Today screen.

OT: I recently got a new Axim, after having been out of the Pocket PC world for about two years. I'd suffered a hard disk crash in that time, and didn't have any of the original software files or reg codes. I wrote the folks at nyditot. I got a very helpful response within something like eight hours (faster than any other vendor our there, I might add).

Thumbs up for high quality of support! :approve:
