Why can't I share ?

Hi, I need your help fellows ...

I created a PTP WIFI network.
Subnet 192.168.0.X.
My Axim 50V connects to this network and I can open web pages
with PIE.
Now, I want to share folders from my desktop pc.
I shared a folder but I can't reach it from my Axim.
It is not a firewall issue !
I also have NetBios installed and I can see my desktop pc name under "computer near me" in Resco Explorer.
I just can't reach the shared folder. "can't find network path" message.
When I tried the same procedure with WinSE "file explorer" it want's me to create a VPN connection. WHY ? What Am I doing wrong ?
Isn't it supposed to be a simple procedure ? ...

Thanks in advance,
Lior

Ok... go into PIE and type //MyPC - where MyPC is the name of the computer you want to see, or just its IP. If this works, you have a software problem on your axim.. Otherwise, try disabling the firewall on your pc, and the network connection you are using for the WiFi.

Ok,
Tried the PIE // convention.
It issued the "cannot connect" warning (connectivity task bar icon) and it ask me to configure a VPN network.

Did you try changing the connection from Internet to Work?

Could be a password problem on the PC. Do your share for "Everyone" All acces.

Also it can be the Windows XP firewall (even if you said it's not)

don't you need to enable local file share access with a utlility like Resco Explorer? I didn't think there was a way to do it without throwing the right switch in the PPC's registry.

There is something like the above software for free out there, I just can't remember the name.

Worth a shot...

I had a similar situation. You may have done this, but then again, maybe you haven't... Is your desktop connections enabled for "Microsoft Networks" and for "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks". I think the default mode is enabled, but it can't hurt to check - happened to me a few times.

If you want to check whether those services are enabled (this is in XP):
In your desktop/laptop, go to "my network connections", right click whatever connection you are using for your home network ("Local Area Connection" is the standard for wired and "Wireless Network Connection" for (duh! :p) wireless connections). Once you right click, go to properties and a small window will open. This window will show you all the services that connection is using (under the "General" tab). In my experience, both of the services I mentioned must be enabled to allow file sharing.

PIE would probably be the easiest method to connect, all you do is (as people indicated before) "\\COMP-NAME" and you should get a connection. Then you should be able to see the shared folder and open it... If that doesn't work, hopefully someone will come up with what you're looking for soon.

Hope that helps :approve:
