VGA-Video out really Works... i canīt believe it...
Just in Case any of you didnīt already know....
I just tried my VGA-Cable for my Axim x50v with the new Core Pocket Media Player (formerly known as Betaplayer)...
The Player has direct Support for the Intel 2700G.. Iīve tried to play a VGA-DivX Video (i,Robot, 600 MB with 2 Audio Streams) over an external Monitor and it acutally worked. :approve:
Switching the PDA-Screen off (PowerButton and Record-Button) it even played as smmooth and brillant as on my Notebook...
I got my Axim x50v just yesterday and Iīm already very impressed.. ;-)
I hope you forgive a newbie at aximsite, probably you already discussed that issue week ago :)
OK, Iīm gone again trying to push my Axim to the limit... ;-)

It's in Axim X50 Accessories - Cables, Cradles, Power - link
http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna...067&first=true
The Nydiot Beta release is superb and allows 1024x768 @ 60Hz with many PocketPC applications.
BetaPlayer runs at 1024x768 with re-encoded DVD's (using AutoGuardian Knot - watch out for spyware, though) at around 25 fps. The upscaling is reasonable and the result is very watchable.
If someone has a place where I can upload a video of the Axim X50V + Dell VGA cable + Monitor, I will happily do so.
Get a keyboard and you almost have a replacement PC! Can't wait for Dell's upgrade to Windows Mobile 2005. Propoer MS Office support and DirectX 7.

!??!! Is this really video at 1024x768 or just stretched to fit?!?
If it is that would be amazing! With a bit of overclocking you could have HDTV on your PDA :D :D :D

The 2700G can drive 1024x768 (xga I think) screen nativly, but only when the LCD screen is disabled with power+record in mirror mode. However the program has to do some things to change from 640 to 1024. I know acrobat and the clearvue suite can, and I would assume that this guy is verifing that betaplayer can now as well. No stretching, and the X50v actually has quite a bit more power required for a integer decode then is really required for most video files, and the 2700G has video acceleration/decoding functions built into it as well.
That Nydiot thing looks really cool as well, I already use my X50v as a pseudo-desktop when I am on the go (no space for a laptop, and I generally dont like them). My faculty at university use's just linux (to encourage the windows users to learn something else) and Nydiot + betaplayer + (screen/mouse/keyboard of workstation) basically makes a entire computer in your hand. H/PC that :P

PS: I wonder how hard it would be to make a TTL serial port -> USB keyboard/mouse adapter. I know keyboards use just +5V and 0, but dont know about mice other then how the data packets are arranged.

Nice Idea! :approve: You don't need a mouse with Nyditot - Your PDA becomes a touchpad. The PS2/TTL keyboard adapter could probably be done (Here's one: http://www.icircuits.com/prod_misc_main.html), but the tough thing would be the drivers for the PDA ...

Thats actually going to far, I guess I should have said that most PS/2 keyboards and mice fundimentally work as TTL devices, but have packet interfaces piped over a serial (of the standard 6 pin PS/2, 1 is +5V, 1 is ground, 1 is a clock, one is data). RS-232(-12V to 0V=1, 1V-12V =0) is the enemy for the X50v though, as its built in serial connection is TTL (+5V = 1, 0V=0). USB keyboard and mice are different (USB is TTL) but going from USB-> PS/2 is typically just a little adapter (which I am pretty sure just is a timing chip bridge to the clock line and the data line directly bridged to the USB data line). My concern was more about trying to squeeze two serial devices on one connection would typically require a small chip just to prevent collisions. Another solution would be just to just use one BT device and then you only need to worry about connecting one serial device.
I have a keyboard lying around here somewhere that has the pins for +5V, GND, DATA and clock connected to a busbar that I used to hook it up to my calculator with, perhapse after the hell of shift work this weekend I might take a look at it.
WM2003SE at least contains native support for serial keyboards and mice that work on TTL, but bury it abit as mice are rare, and keyboards almost always have an additional driver that converts from whatever communication protocol the keyboard used to a more friendly format for the OS to accept.

A full port dock for the X50v :approve: :approve: You could sell that if you could squeeze keybaord/Mouse/VGA and Power into a single multi tentacled cable - hell I'd buy one just coz it existed! All the inputs are there on the Axim - I reckon this is well worthy! Let me know if you go any further with it!

Medevo - betaplayer is just sending it's VGA output via the Intel 2700G which is then upscaling the movie to 1024x768. There is no quality improvement over the Nyditot 640x480 output, as far as I can tell.
I didn't have to use Mirror mode (control panel applet), as the virtual display software taps into the Intel display driver directly. The performance when using the PPC and (PPC screen as) mouse pointer is quite good, and with a bit of practice, turns the system into quite an effective PC. Think axim screen as a large laptop trackpad, when using Nydiot display software. The software taps into the same tweak that OZ_VGA and SEVGA use, by the looks of it, although it's supposed to be able to output to 1280x720. I'll verify all this, once i've made a VGA to component lead to connect to my home theatre projector.
The Clearvue suite is pretty good, and can output at 1024x768, so Word, Excel, Acrobat, Powerpoint docs all look great. However, fonts and embedded bitmaps are often corrputed (known issue and Westek are fixing for the next release). The picture viewer allows your photos to be displayed at true XGA resolution on a monitor - very impressive.
Adobe's Acrobat reader 2 works very well with Nydiot and displays Acrobat docs very fast (as good as an older PC).
Anyway, enough of this. Shame the beta of Nyditot only lasts 7 days! Perhaps they could extend the release so it could be tested properly....

I haven't filmed it yet, but i'd anticipate it would be around 10 Mb for 30 seconds @640x480 XVID. I could take a couple of pics as well. The video won't be amazing quality, as it will be taken with a Fuji S602 camera. I can't seem to get sound, but I suppose that's not so important. Let me know. Cheers

Very interesting. I will be doing some testing of my own soon. I have the VGA-Out cable. What I find harder is, getting an answer on is a VGA to S-video or AV adapter. I know if I use one with a power source I can run my video to a standard tv. Howver I have never seen any pictures of peoples setups, or the brand of adapter they used. I have only heard rumrs on this site. I wish......
