Axim x51v?

I am curious as to where tht title x51v came from? I first saw it in a thread on this board?

The only kind of hard evidence on the next Axim I have otherwise seen is on Brighthand in which the talk about a version of the Axim with a hard drive coming out in the Fall I believe.

As a new Axim x50v owner (still within the return period), like some others, I have and am wondering if it is worth waiting 3 months for such new release? If the only difference is WM 5.0, then the free upgrade by Dell is just as good. But if there is more to it, 128 ram, hard drive, USB 2.0, etc., it may be worth a little more cash and waiting (at least for me).

Unfortunately, as is the nature with new products, we probably will not know more for a bit.

Really, there is no solid evidence as to what Dell will be releasing in the fall. I doubt that it will be an "X51", which appears to be just a name that somebody pulled out of thin air. I also doubt that they would re-release the X50 under any other name with 128 MB RAM/USB2/hard drive/whatever, since it would probably screw up their pricing and naming structure.

What is reasonably certain is that Dell will probably release some kind of new unit this fall, most likely in October. What it will be like, no one knows for sure. The Brighthand report said it would have a hard drive, but they also said that Dell would be building a converged device next year, and Dell said that that isn't so. So currently, we have no idea. It may still be a hard drive based unit, it may not. It may be something even better than the X50v, it may not.

My advice: keep your Axims. Enjoy them. There will always be something new on the horizon.

I plucked down $300 for my current x30h 7 or 8 months ago and now I just put down $400 dollars for my upcoming x50v and it won't be the "top of the line" axim I thought it was going to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited to be getting my new x50v... I was just hoping it wouldn't be the "old model" before I even got it.
To be fair, the X50v may be new to you, but it's actually been out for quite a while. It came out within a month or two of you buying the X30...

New 1800mah battery are coming soon and will only be 1mm thicker. That will be great, but it's not by Dell.

We will see, but if Dell was to introduce something major, they would have changed the name more than that.
I would like to know who is going to make the 1800 battery also, that would be a lot better battery performance for being just 1 mm thicker. That would be great!

How True! i never guessed right when it came to technology....got a sony hifi beta vcr years ago because sony was the first to offer hifi vcr...vhs became the standard...i got the intellivison gaming system with the voice module and that fizzzled out to Atari....then i got a commodore 128 PC because they offered the first cheap floppy disk drive, the IBM 287 chip ended up being the PC standard....then i got a kenwood Ctype mini cassette video camera and that format died a swift death...i think i have enuff for a "wrong technology" museum....
musta gotten that from my dad, he had an Edsel and a studebaker!

Lion Battery ("THE" source of quality batteries) is anticipating delivery of the new batteries "sometime late summer". Keep an eye on their web site: www.lionbattery.com. However, one of their key guys (Mike) is a member of AximSite (MEF38). He will probably post their availability in the AximSite forums.
