Hmm WHY am I just now finding out about the x51 ?

Hello all... Just ordered my new x50v ( off of ebay ) and decided I should read around to catch any bugs or updates or whatnot to be expecting with my new pda. What I wasn't expecting was for my new pda to be 2nd generation so fast. I plucked down $300 for my current x30h 7 or 8 months ago and now I just put down $400 dollars for my upcoming x50v and it won't be the "top of the line" axim I thought it was going to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited to be getting my new x50v... I was just hoping it wouldn't be the "old model" before I even got it.

Why are you just finding out about the X51?

Because it doesn't exist yet...

... it is still in rumour land. Feel free to believe as much or as little as you like. But it ain't real yet

I do not see any X51 available on Dell's site in Canada or the US. ??? not a second generation yet for now.

I bet we'll see a new Axim by christmastime, perhaps sooner, but no earlier than October I would guess. So you will have the latest and greatest for a little while at least.

There's never a good time to buy technology, you just have to pick the least bad time and go for it. Now is a reasonable time (especially if you get the free WM05 upgrade, if indeed it is free). I got mine about 3 months ago - on reflection, it was about as good a time as there is, as it was quite a new product, but by that stage widely available on ebay (where I also bought mine).

Again.. I want to make it clear that I'm not unhappy. And it is good to hear that it's still a rumor. But if true, I may have waited and continued to save up for the "new" model.

And I think now is a good time to buy an x50v too as the price I got mine for was $140 less than what Dell is currently selling it for.

Technology changes so fast that usually ( unless you buy something the day it comes out ) your buying a "soon to be out dated' item.

IF you want always the top of the line, you will wait all your life.

If the rumor is right, the X51v will be out this october.. and guess what, Dell witll introduce a "REAL" new PDA next year..

You should wait next year..... nah.... X50v will have the Windows Mobile 5 update, so you will be ok for at last 2 years. The X51v will probably be just a marketing thing. A X50v with WM5 update and USB2 support. nothing more (this is my guess) Just like the selling point of the X50 had the WMP10 and not X30... but the X30 actualy have it with an update.

If you would have got a X30 (that don't have the update) now you could be unhappy :D I have sold my X30 to get an X50v 1 month ago and I'm very happy.

Or keep updating with each new model, for compulsory "early adopters" and "I always want the top of the line"

With all the features that the x50v has I wouldnt fret too much. I just got mine and have been playing with it for a few days. A chap handed me his nonVGA PDA to get my email address and I instantly noticed the pixelated look his screen had.

The only thing I reckon that they would be of benefit in changing on the x50v would be increasing the built in storage ... still with all the bits n bobs I have for this thing I'm going to be busy for some time to come :)

That would be more that just a marketing thing. An x50v with WM5, USB2 host (& longer standard life battery) would be SWEET!

Well, we will have the Update. USB2.0 will probably come with WM5 update too. Longer battery ? I don't think. It was said that they couldn't put more power in the same size.

New 1800mah battery are coming soon and will only be 1mm thicker. That will be great, but it's not by Dell.

We will see, but if Dell was to introduce something major, they would have changed the name more than that.

From the sounds of it your suffering buyers remorse. I'd see if you can return the unit and get your money back. Clearly your not going to be happy with it.

From what I read of the X51 it really won't differ too much from the X50 and its just a small incremental update until they can release a major upgrade (internal HD) in 2006.

As others have said there will always be a faster better more effecient model being released around the corner. You need to ask yourself does the X50 satisify your needs. If so be content and enjoy it. If not, either return it if possible, or (re)sell it on eBay. Bottom line is its your money.

Enjoy
Mike
