I received my x50v yesterday and I was amazed at what a great product the x50v was and how many extras dell threw in, free case and free travel charger.
Anyway, today I had to attend a funeral - in Wiltshire. Great, 2 1/2 boring hours of car journey (note - I was not driving!) there and the same going back. Earlier on I had loaded TTD PPC, Chess, a few ebooks, 1 episode of the Simpsons and my MP3 collection. My main gripe was the transfer speed - amazingly slow. The only way around this that I know of is to get a card reader and stick my CD and SD cards in it or Sync over WiFi, both of which are unavailable to me. For this reason I could not load on the 249mb Italian Job (2003) movie that I ripped before hand as it would keep reseting the transfer (I find this happens with big files). My friend has a spare wireless router, so I will disable the routing functions and sync over that.
The journey began, fire up TCPMP and load up my playlist. Sound quality on this is suprisingly good and LOUD, just as well in headphone mode it disables it if you try to set it to the top 2 notches - otherwise serious ear damage may occour!
After about an Hour we got to a service station where we stopped for breakfast. I detected 2 wireless networks there, one I assume was somebodys laptop in Ad-Hoc mode and the BtOpenzone network. Unfortunatly, BtOpenzone costs and im not prepared to pay massively inflated prices to do a little surfing.
We proceeded on and I decided to watch that episode of the simpsons I had put on. I was astounded, I could not see any defects at all and the colour was just as good as you see on TV. I was thinking that it would be grainy and pixelated but quality (640x480) was outstanding!
Eventually we arrived and the service proceeded, obviously I turned it off.
On the way back I began to explore the Contacts program and was amazed at how many options there where per person. I began to transfer them off my phone (Which has not IR or BT). The Transcriber is pretty good but sometimes gets letters wrong, this isn't a problem with the PDA but my writing style. Heck, possibly this PDA could improve my handwriting!
Then, I heard a aleart sound warning me that the battery was low. I just ignored it and continued listening to my MP3s, since the warning occours at just 20%. It happened again at 10% about 1 hour later and again I ignored it. Then about 2 Minuites from home I heard a diffrent warning sound, telling me it would shut off in 10 seconds because the main battery was exhausted. I now had 30 minuites to get it to the cradle, I did it in 2

.
Another thing that suprised me was how fast the battery recharges, in about 2 Hours it went from 0 to 100! Thats much better than any other electronic goods I have owned.
My main concern about the PDA was its battery life, but on the standard 1200mah battery I lasted about 5-6 hours of operation time doing various diffrent things, WiFi, Movies, Music and Games. Now I know I dont have to buy an extended battery which in my opinion would ruin the sleek looks of it. If I need more battery power I will just buy another standard battery, I very much doubt this though.
All in all though a great product, I reccomend this for its Screen, Size, Battery life, Graphics power, recharge time and looks (Almost everything!) What I would not reccomend it for was transfering files in an instant.
The End
(Note: I also did some other things with it like games and ebooks but cant be bothered to tell you every aspect of my day :) )
