What's eating my memory?

I new at PPC and after installing a few apps, it seems a lot of my main memory is being eaten up. With no apps running, I'm left with 5.81 MB free. Is this normal? I've attached screen shots of what I have installed in main memory. Thanks for the help.

I'm interested in this feedback as well. I have installed most all my programs to SD but still seem to run out of internal memory.

Two of us need some feedback.

You installed too much software in your Ram (Main memory)

Time to reset your PDA and installing all your software in Built in storage or Memory card.

Edit: Just in your program files, you have Adobe installed, which take near 8mb alone ! Netfront 3.2 take about 6mb too.

Don't wonder where this memory is

If you are surfing the net, you are building up a big Temp file cache. That can be several MB in a short time.

Also make sure you are properly closing your running apps using the built-in Switcher bar or a third party utility such as Magic Button, Wisbar Advanced or Spb Pocket Plus.

i see the funk software there, its the Odyse client
u could delete that 2mb file (odclientce.exe) replace it with 1k file with same name, so its not written again, and theres also that same file in windows folder do the same and u have 4mb free from ram

thats all fine ofcorse if u dont need to use the odyse client :)

You can also buy or try the program MemMaid. It clears IE cache, dead register and other stuff for you. It is a good program.

Also try Tweaks2k2. You can move shared dlls to BIS saving you about 2.5mb

Close all your apps and do a soft reset and see how it looks.

Thanks for the replies. I found the problem -- the \windows directory is 41.70 MB. Looks to me that it normally should only be about 25MB.

I'm going through each subdirectly now to find out the culprit.

Found it:

/Windows/Profiles/guest/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 20.61 MB

Good grief.
Ok to delete it?

Solved my own problem by using MemMaid as suggested. I still don't understand why PPC would cache 20 MB of temporary files (?)

All's good now.

You can download the Internet Explorer tools powertoy (here ) and install it. Then you can choose the size of the IE cache. I think the default on mine was 31MB. What a waste! Had to change it.

You can also manually clean out PIE cache by going into Tools - Options - Memory (tab) and tapping "Clear History"/"Delete files". The Security tab will also allow you to clear cookies.

Hello,
Just a suggestion, but you might want to move the slider more to the left.. this will allow more memory to run the programs, as you do not need so much in the "storage" area. You want as much space to run your programs as you can get. It makes them run smoother and faster. Check out the link to my ?memory help tutorial, in my sig.

Right, thanks for the heads up. I wasn't paying attention and for a while believed it was better to keep the slider toward the right for some reason.
Cheers
