Windows Media Player problems

I am getting "an unexpected error occurred" message whenever I try to synch with my pc. It worked fine until this started happening. As far as I know nothing on either system has changed. When I try to play music from my CF card, I get the same message or "An unknown error 0X8000FFFF has occurred" or"The parameter is incorrect." I have done a hard reset and deleted all my music files from my CF card and resynched, all to no avail. Has anyone ran into this that can help me? I need my tunes back!

I had the same exact problem. I tried a number of solutions but finally had to re-format the card. After that, everything worked fine.

WMP10 is buggy - most people around here are using GSPlayer - it is free, fast and stable. There is also a VGA version.

Cheers

So how does that interact with Windows Media player? It's pretty simple right now, does that change with GSPlayer?

You need to copy the files to your SD/CF card and create a play list. Doesn't interact with the desktop version at all. Bit of a shame I know.

However you can map the hardware buttons, the audio quality is better and there is a graphic equaliser.

I can only say check it out it costs nothing but a little time and it might save you WMP hassels.

Let me know if you need links - but I think it is easy to find using google.

I reformatted my CF card and everything is working again. Thanks for the help and I'll try out the new player and see how it works too. I read a couple of your help posts Adrian and they were quite helpful for a longtime Palm user like myself. I wonder some days why I made the switch, but for better or worse I'm committed. This site rocks!

Cool, I am glad it works again :)
The tutorial section here is great and you can ask any question you like just about on the forums without getting flamed so hopefully this will make your trasition from Palm to PocketPc easier.

Cheers

Thanks for the tips- After letting the batteries run dead, I could not get WMP10 to create/update libraries & I could only open & play one song at a time, & then only when opened directly from my sd card...I, too was getting the 'an unexpected error has occurred' message (how helpful is that message?)

Obviously that was unsustainable; I reformatted my sd card, reloaded the song, and so far everything works.

Aximsitemobileicon Almost a year after ...

I had had same issue with WMP but as others said, reformatted cards / hard reset and went on ...

Now I tried to pay more attention on this ... and I think I've discovered that this is because naming of cards. After a hard reset my cards appears as "Tarjeta SD" or "Tarjeta CF", my SD Card came along with my axim and CF Card was buyed in EUA ... whenever CF Card appears as "Tarjeta CF" the 0X8000FFFF error occurs but I don't know when or why the CF Card naming changes to CF Card and from here everything goes smooth with WMP ...

I'll check GS Player ...

Update:

GSPlayer didn't correct the problem ... FCK! How do I correct this behavior? I can't turn off my pda while playing a song stored on CF Card because when I turn it on again the player (either WMP pr GSP) can't restart from the point it left.

I am not sure why this issue started for me - no hard resets in the recent past but it did happen.

Anyway I fixed it by re-formatting the card (FAT16, as I read elsewhere this is faster) as others have done. As I say, just not sure what prompted this to go wrong.

It was a hard process to me just because I had all my apps on the CFCard too. So, did a hard reset, formatted both flash cards (SD and CF) but using FAT16 on SD and FAT 32 on CF because memory size limit (FAT16 <512MB< FAT32) as stated on tutorials. Reinstalled all apps and synchronized 1.3 GB of music to CF Card. Tried playing, pause and turned off/on PDA, restart playing and three songs after error message appeared. I'm full of doubts and guessing again!

I think there is a less drastic solution than reformatting the SD card; at least this worked for me.

In the root directory of the SD card delete two directories (they are hidden, so you will need to set your file manager program accordingly):

\MSMETADATA
\WINDOWS MEDIA DRM

Then restart windows media player and rebuild the library.

That doesn't worked for me! :(

Deleted directories, restarted wmp, rebuilt library and tried the event of play-pause-off-on-play and same error again, details are "0X8000FFFF" unexpected error

I'm thinking in manually renaming storage card ....
