Any way to prevent sth from running during startup

Hi! I have MS Voice Command installed in my X50v.

I just knew that this program takes about 4MB of memory!! And its set to load during startup. I tried to remove the .lnk in startup folder to prevent it from running automatically. It worked and saved about 4MB of RAM.

However the problem is, after you launched the program (FYI I assign it to button1), it will automatically adds the .lnk back to startup..

Under this situation, is there anything we can do. I think I've set the "Enable Voice Command" option off under the control panel settings... Is there sth like batch file thing in PPC so that I can check for the existance of the .lnk file and delete it if found??

Try creating a shortcut to something else and give it the same name as Voice Command uses. Maybe it will see the shortcut and not recreate it, without actually checking where the shortcut is heading. You could rename an existing shortcut if there's nothing you want to add... (Keep a copy of the shortcut you rename as if VC does recreate it, you'll lose that shortcut so you'll want to be able to replace it!)

You can set a file to be read-only, this may stop it overwriting your fake shortcut if you find it does. In Resco Explorer, just view the properties of the file and tick the box. I don't know how you do this in other file browsers.

BTW, what does "sth" mean?

it works perfectly. There's no need to make the .lnk file Read Only. I guess MS Voice Command just checks for the availability of the .lnk file in startup folder.

Thanks again!
