how to backup CF card, wipe, then restore?

I need my extra CF card in my axim for camera storage before going on a trip, and it is not compatible with my Canon camera as it is currently formatted (and I need the whole gig of data for photos anyway).

I want to backup the card, format it for the camera for the week's trip, then after the photos are off of it I want to restore the card for my axim with all the programs, etc. that it originally had on it.

If I drag and drop all the folders/files from the axim prior to formatting it for my camera, is it as simple as just copying them back once I'm done using it for the camera? Do I need to reformat it after it had been formatted by the camera?

A relatively simple quesion, but I don't want to lose my data.

Thanks

best way would be to use a card reader and back up everything to a computer hard drive. use properties in My computer to see how it is presently formatted (fat 16 or fat32). Once all files are copied to the computer, format it in the camera. When back, reformat it using the computer to the same fat system as originally (after getting your pics out of course) then recopy everything back to the cf card.
