How to restore backed up A03 rom?

Hi,

My axim won't charge my batteries. Since I'm in Europe right now and dell won't replace my unit till I return to the US. (doesn't that just suck by the way?). I thought I would try to restore my backed up A03 rom. But since the unit reset itself my pc sees it as a different unit and it doesn't allow me to restore the backed up rom. Doesn anyone know a way around this?
Thanks for your help.
Andrew
