OK... this is really scary now. After reading 5 pages of the "Lethal Cradle" thread, my joy of ordering a new X50V is now gone. Who knows... I may also fry my PC or laptop if connected via USB.
Here are couple of newbie questions. Please note that I dont know what's in the package and how things are connected to and from the cradle...
1. Is there a way to "completely" avoid USB syncs? WiFi and/or Bluetooth? I assume these will work, as long as the "host" computer has the connection capability.
2. The X50 will be charged on the cradle regardless of whether it is connected to a USB port or not, right?
3. How about the initial sync. Can that be done with WiFi and/or Bluetooth?
I am trying to figure out whether I can just designate the cradle as a simple "charger" and find some other means to sync with the PC rather than the USB port. My DELL PC is not under warranty anymore and I dont want to try explain to tech support that my little X50V fried my PC.
I wouldn't worry too much about the USB thing. I've been syncing since feb on 6 different pcs and haven't had a problem. It's probably good practice to use the AC adaptor with the cradle.
The first sync has to be done via the cradel and then you can use a BT/Wifi sync.
(the cradle will also be needed for rom updates and the WM5 update)

Thanks for the reply... I will "try" not to worry about it when it arrives here :)
Here is another question. There are no available "on board" USB connections left on my PC. However, there is one on the front face of the case and 4 more on the 1703FP monitor. Should I use the ones that are on my LCD to connect the X50v? If something is going to fry, I'd much rather have that to be the monitor, since it has 2 more years warranty on it... Since I believe the USB connections on the monitor are like a powered hub, it may also help the situation (or not).
The "adventure" started even before the unit arrived here :)
As an aside, yes, you can completely avoid USB. I don't think that you can sync by WiFi the first time, but you definitely can sync via BT, then use WiFi after that.
I would try and use a port that you can just leave it plugged into. ActiveSync and get a bit pickey when you do a lot of plugging and unplugging. But I would also not worry about frying any ports. Not a big problem anymore to my knowledge.

Thanks for the replies. In this case, I will connect it the first time to the ports on the monitor. Do the initial sync. Then, I will try to sync via BT (hoping that my diNovo Media Desktop hub will see it).
I have a Belkin USB hub just sitting in a box. It's an older version (1.1, powered). Can I connect the cradle to that hub, and then to the ports on the monitor (which is USB 2.0)? This is like going through 2 hubs... Is there an advantage -or disadvantage- about this setup? I dont even know if the Axim cradle uses USB 2.0 or not.
i just got this warning on my Inspiron today, trying to sync my x50v for the first time... i dont have BT on here, but there's a USB BT adapter i can go get at compusa if i need to,right? i have this d-link powered usb hub sitting next to me, that should be power enough right? i dont have the actual power cable right now, so my only charge option is via usb... can i run to compusa and pick up a universal power charger for it?
