I ordered on the 27th of July, and my bet is they will ship on August 2.
I've seen this exact thing happen plenty of times. Dell seems to email you with a worst case scenerio, but it always comes shipped earlier.
Don't worry.
That's coming from a person that has wanted an Axim since January--but I finally found the right deal.
Where exactly on Dell's site did it say that your order would ship between 8/2 and 8/5? I ordered mine on the 27th and got the delay notice. My order status still shows the estimated shipping date as 7/28/05

I have a similar situation. Ordered on 7/26, estimated ship was 7/28, estimated "delivery" was 8/2-8/4, received the "delayed" e-mail (until 8/19). At this point, everything still looks the same. Are you sure you are not confusing the estimated ship date with the delivery date?

By the way, my status is stock at "preproduction", while the GPS bundle shows as "in production (with the expected ship date of 8/10); who knows, I may receive the GPS before X50V :)

Axim - How to get $262 deal?

I'm new to the forum and would like to know how and where you got this deal - is it still available?

According to the salesperson I spoke with after calling the number at the Dell site (1-866-600-6218) the price has never been below $400 even with a discount.

Any help on getting a how to get the best deal would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

The reason that the price was so low was becuase of a "$120 off" coupon (on top of the 35% off). Unfortunately, that coupon expired already. I am sure there will be other coupons in the near future; just keep your eyes open.

There are number of webpages that post tech related coupons: techbargains.com or slickdeals.net are good examples.

Good luck! :)

Delayed as well

I ordered on the 27th and have since gotten the aug 19th shipping date. If I check on my order status, it still says that "estimated" ship date is between 8/2-8/5. Count on it being delayed.

Of note, I originally placed an order without the $35 ebay coupon. After I found out about it, I used their chat line and they cancelled the order for me. Then, I reordered it with the coupon. Unfortunately, my bank account was charged for both transactions. So, I called Dell support, and they told me that they don't do the actual billing and would have to send a form to the billing company to retract my charge. It has been two days and I still don't have the money back in my account. What if I hadn't called Dell? Would they still have sent the form?
I'm crossing my fingers that the money will be returned early next week.

I'm really looking forward to the X50V, though. It's been almost two years since I had a PPC.

I did a similar thing... I ordered one with a $25 off coupon that I received in the mail. Then I changed my mind and cancelled the first order. A minute later, I ordered X50V and the GPS. They let me use the $25 coupon one more time, since the first order was canceled. Did not know about the eBay coupon...

Yep,

I ordered mine 7-21, ship date7-29. The Good news it arrived on the 29th via UPS. The Bad news is it's DOA. THis is my first Dell purchase as well as my first PDA.

I'm getting cold feet now, should I be concerned? Or is this just bad luck ?

Thanks

Don

Bad luck -- call customer service and they should send you one out overnight.

FYI: I got mine today via UPS, wasn't packaged very good, but it seems to be working....its charging up for now, I will test it out something tomorrow afternoon.

Delayed Message

I also ordered my x50v on 7/26 and got an estimated delivery date of 7/28. My GPS arrived on 7/28 and the same day I received the message saying I was going to receive my PDA on or after 8/29. I can honestly say I was very frustrated. I went into the dell site to cancel my order but found out that if I cancelled, and ordered at a later date, I was going to pay an extra $40.00. So, I guess I can wait three more weeks.

I don't think I can do much with a GPS that is not accompanied by a PDA.

At least I know I am not the only one.

"Dear Valued Customer,
We have reviewed your order. Although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay with your order 49737xxxx and will not be able to ship this order and any associated orders until on or before 08-19-2005."

Since you have the GPS, could you tell me whether you received it with 2 CDs or 3CDs?

As indicated earlier in this thread, the problem is not the Axim per se, they dont have enough batteries in stock to supply the demand. Just be patient; I now it is not that easy :)

I am assuming that they wanted to charge you for the discount you received on the GPS when configured with an X50V unit; is that true?

Thanks for the GPS info in advance. I am trying to figure out whether DELL is sending "everybody" the updated version of the GPS software or not. It would be even greater if you could take a look at the receiver and the CDs and tell us whether it says A00, A01, etc...

Thanks!!!

I don't know if I should be intrigued, or really worried now. Well I checked my receiver and the receiver says (REV A00). But, My CD's say (REV A01). Can you please tell me if this is a good or bad thing.

I need to know if it is not a good thing, so I can address the issue accordingly. If they just tried to stick it to me, I guess my PDA is gonna have to wait a lot longer than 8/19.

I will really appreciate your response,
SSK

Dont worry; it's a good thing :)
REV A01 means you got the updated maps and the software (works better with VGA). So, you have 3 CDs, right? The updates were released late June/early July. Despite the expectation of previous GPS owners, DELL charges $99 for the updated maps and software. So far, I have read only one case, where DELL sent the GPS system with "old" CDs (only two), although the purchase was made after the release.
The bottom line is, your GPS system is up to date; you just need to find "other things to do" until they ship your beloved X50V

Good luck!
