Slow internet!

Hi everyone,

I have a 2mbps Internet Connection on a wireless network at home. My 3 desktop pc's have no problem but my X50 is painfully slow when browsing.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to improve this?

Thanks

Is all performance slow or just Internet? If just Internet, are you by any chance storing your PIE temp files in BIS? That can slow browsing to a crawl.

If overall performance is slow, try a soft reset, close running programs that are not needed (using the Switcher bar or 3rd party utility like Magic Button, Spb Pocket Plus, Wisbar, etc.), and clean out Main Memory by unstalling apps and cleaning out junk files.

i found even storing the temp files on a memory card slows browsing extremely.
i put them back in main memory, and that made much faster response.
then, use memmaid more often to clear temp files.

Check with IkeHiker. He has some wonderful guides to WiFi and ethernet connections on your Axim x50. Check him out for these types of questions. :hide:

its normal

ill presumed your running the wlan with wep or wpk and or with a vpn.

makes the xfer rates slow as molasses

like say an uncrypted xfer of two minutes versus an encrypted xfer of the

same file will take 10 minutes.

The biggest cause for slow browsing is having Power Saving mode enabled on the X50 wifi interface.

The guide that ironhelix is referring to is here:

I've done some testing with encryption and unless you are doing the encryption with some additional third party software you'll see no decrease in speed. Over a 80MB file I saw something like a 2 second increase when comparing WEP with no WEP. If there is software AES being done then there will be a much larger increase in time to download. But for WEP and WPA you should see no significant increase in time to transfer.
