Streaming Video

I am a new user and now my second post...
Just got my X50v ysetarday.. first PDA

my problem is is this...
I have a lot of xvid clips.. and want to play them on my PDA.
i can play them fine if i copy them to my memeory card.
Buut what i would like to be able to do is play them directly off my PC via WIFI.
I find it plays for a second then pauses for 10-15 seconds then it plays again for a second...
the content is average 1 mbit/s
I using "The Core Pocket Media Player" for player and luching it through "Resco Explorer 2003" I have check and there isn't anything else running.
My network is setup such that i have a wifi installed on my PC and have a connection made via ad-hoc
is there enough bandwidth to play it?

Is the content 1Mb/s or 1MB/s? Either way it sounds like a bandwidth issue. The best bet is to look at some proper streaming tools like Windows Media Encoder.

1Mb/s... standard XviD content with mp3 audio... was unable to find an ac3 decoder for PPC
what is the maximum bandwidth?
I guess i could give Windows Media Encoder a look at but i was hopeing i wouldn't have to reencode everything.
any help is greatly apreciated...

If it's 1Mb/s then it's possibly more of a consistency issue than a pure bandwidth issue. The PDA has to pull down the data off the network, decode it and display it. It's a lot of work.

Do you have the processor set to maximum speed?

I would consider WME at various different speeds and see which one happens to work out best. At the very least, even at 1Mb/s from WME it's going to be a more consistent stream. What you're doing right now it just trying to cram the file through the air in whatever fashion it can.

I would check out ORB (www.orb.com). It will stream your Xvid files to your PPC (no re-encoding necessary).

the max bandwidth for streaming is 1.1MBps in theory

because 802.11B is 11Mbps if you have encryption on your network try removing it or set the buffer for the player up to 10megs.

an AC3 codec is available for the TCPMP from http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=5...se_id=125#r125. Also I had this in TCPMP and it was the "Power save mode:" setting in the WLAN utility screen. If I set it to enabled then videos stuttered if set to disabled then they didn't.

Nope, not even that. 11Mb/s is how much bandwidth there is in the air, but in reality with CSMA/CA on top you'll not get anywhere near that. 5Mb/s (0.625MB/s) is doable. Even at 5Mb/s though the PDA cannot keep up with that. So typically bandwidth is not the biggest issue, it's the performance of the Axim that tends to be the limiting factor. How quickly it can pull the data through the air, process it and display it.
