Why does it take forever to transfer data using the cradle?

Hope I'm finally posting this in the right forum :-P

I ripped a movie and converted it using the excellent quide here, but since I dont have a card reader installed on this PC I used the Windows data transfer progam to move it over to the CF card...

Its taking foooooooooorever. Now this is a brand new PC and I just can't imagine that a 480mb file would normally take this long over a USB 2.0 connection.

Is this normal?

Should I get a card reader?

:rolling:

I have a card reader just not on this PC, I finally got fed up and went to another PC and used its card reader.

I just do not understand why the data transfer over the cradle is so lame...

and because activsync seems to act as a bottle neck, People who use cardexport say they get a better transfer rate (although still only usb1 speeds)

The Axims as are most pdas are USB 1.1 so it is slow....wifi is much faster for syncing and installing programs :) so its not really all activesyncs fault....

Most do... I think it's down to the mobile chipset implementation. (the HP4700 is a rare exception)

The transfer rate thru the cradle isnt even close to usb 1.1 speed. The connector is a usb 1.1 standard but there is a serial converter inside the pda that does the actual transfer. So you can only get serial speed from the cradle period which is slow as a three legged turtle carrying a 5 lb weight. Usb 1.1 is hundreds times faster than serial.

There are couple of firewire readers in the market, like this. I have seen SanDisk, Lexar and other brands Firewire readers too. Try google.

The problem isn't the cradle, it's ActiveSync itself.
Using Card Export II with the same cradle, transfer speeds are increased to near the USB 1.1 max.
